I've been to the new ground 4 times and not once experienced a good atmosphere from the home crowd. Every stadium cheers a goal - I'm talking about the atmosphere around the ground the rest of the game.

However

Its happening everywhere now, the "big clubs" are just far more tepid in atmosphere in general.

The best ive seen personally this last 18 months was at Arsenal before our away game there last season.

Go to Forest or Newcastle though and its still top class.

I link it to corporate fans/ tourists mainly

Nail hit firmly on head and unfortunately that’s how clubs would like there business direction to go..

I do think sometimes that the size of grounds can contribute to an impression, certainly when viewing on TV, that there is no atmosphere.

Any number of times I’ve been to United games at OT and thought the atmosphere was really good, only to watch TV highlights later to hear it sound like a library. I think sometimes you get pockets of atmosphere in bigger grounds, whilst as a whole the atmosphere is sadly lacking.

Possibly the biggest concern is having a bench full of 12 year olds. Even if some of them have great potential, I'd be worried about throwing them in to play with that team.

The clamour to give some of these kids a game, notably Amass and Obi, has been incredible.

What many fail to understand is that these are kids and, in the case of Obi, are so well physically developed compared with some of their peers that they are going to be star performers in their age group. That doesn’t mean they are anywhere near being ready to be thrust into Premier League action.

I went to a match last season. The stadium itself is amazing - great entry and exit set up, great bars and food outlets.
But the atmosphere was 💩💩.
They all jump up and cheer when Spurs score but it was otherwise a bit sterile.
Don't know if it's truth or 🐂💩 but it's been suggested that the club deliberately scattered the hardcore from a couple of sections in the old ground all around the new place to split them up.

Took a colleague on a stadium tour last year for his retirement. No mistake, the place is amazing. It just lacked atmosphere when I went to a match there.

That big stand they've got at one end should be the loudest in the country...but I heard from a few Spurs friends that they've got corporate seats right in the middle of it. They'll contribute nothing to the atmosphere but plenty to the clubs bottom line.

Bruno is just often so frustrating. He will run everywhere for you, but it almost feels like he is trying to do the job of 2 or 3 players, and not getting the best out of himself. I can't blame him for a lot of that, especially when his team mates change every week. He will play some great passes, as he tries enough of them. And he is capable as well. But, he'll often try a crazy pass in a really dangerous position for us if we lose the ball.

Garnacho's finishing has been really poor of late. If only he could get a nice easy overhead kick opportunity, rather than those really difficult opportunities on your strong foot 8 yards from goal. Actually no real issues with the defenders yesterday, and Zirkzee looked very promising again. Mainly because he was doing basics like being able to control the ball and find team mates with simply balls. It has really come to the point where, as a Man Utd fan, I'm getting excited when I see a player who can play a 5 yard pass successfully. But, as a performance, I did actually enjoy a lot of it compared to many other games in the past. But, it is still a loss, so another week of the media tearing Utd and Amorim apart.

Remember all those years ago what Alan Hansen said, "You win nothing with kids". 😂 How wrong was he?
They were special players though! 👍

Your not gonna win anything with Kids Billy 😁

Yeah. But then they came into a team that also included Schmeichel, Irwin, Bruce, Pallister, Keane and Cantona. And they were all around 20 years old when Hanson made that comment I believe.

I worry when a club now tries to bring in a 17/18 year old, everyone gets really excited and suddenly they are the ones lauded and everyone pins their hopes on the kids leading the team to a glorious return. The kid then goes through a rough patch, or fans get impatient when the team isn't doing well, and suddenly the kids get heavily criticized for not being good enough.

If you are a Ronaldo, Messi or Rooney, you are probably a special case because their talents and mental toughness were so high, that they can cope (although they all did end up playing in sides with strong experienced players to help them, so maybe things would have turned out differently had they debuted in a side like Utd have now?). But, ideally a big club would be in a position to allow their young players to develop, and not have to make them a first team starter until they are 19/20, unless they are a mega star. Give them some fleeting appearances, continue to play in youth sides, maybe send them on loan, etc. I look at players like Rashford, Lingard, Garnacho and even Mainoo now, and wonder if Utd are just destroying them from an early age because they are being exposed to the weight of expectations and often toxic criticism when things don't go well.

All that being said if you're going to play a kid give him more than 3 minutes.

Maybe.

I suspect Amorim's intention was not to expose any of the kids for any amount of time, unless there were injuries. They were simply on bench because there was no one else.

Utd were playing OK in second half, much better than much of the dross we have seen. So sticking on a child after 60/70 minutes could be seen as making a huge gamble, more likely to fail. The 3 minutes at end, no idea what Amorim's thoughts were? Possibly long enough where there is a slight chance the kid could become a hero, but not long enough for people to start creating memes about how rubbish he is, because he misplaces 2 or 3 passes, messes up control, etc.

Amorim watches them in training. I'm sure if he felt he was the type of player ready to go out and change the game in Utd's favour, he'd have given him 20/30 minutes?

Still, maybe some of those kids will get some decent game time before season is done. Not sure if he'd prefer it to be at Old Trafford, when team is already 2 or 3 up (which will never happen), etc

@Swango1980 you make it sound as though the youth team was on the bench. They were 18/19, not 15/16. I appreciate that having a full bench of players that age is exceptional but lots of teams will throw on players of a similar age for 20 minutes or more.

Newcastle play Lewis Miley, 18, Spurs yesterday played Bergeval, 19, often play Archie Gray, 18. These were top of the head ones, I'm sure there are plenty of others. You were carrying Casemiro yesterday, you were losing, why the heck not throw one of the subs on?

Ask Amorim. He knows the players better than me

There have been a couple of games, the Mainoo upfront one being the other, where it feels like he is sending an unsubtle hint to the owners that he needs new signings. That's a dangerous game to play.
I'd have thought he is on good speaking terms with ownership to not have to resort to such hints. He could play his best possible team, in his eyes, and still speak to board to say he needs different players. I just reckon that was another experiment. Just one of those things that sometimes works (like Cup Final last year playing Bruno up front), sometimes doesn't. Manager will be judged accordingly.

I honestly don't know how fit Mainoo has been, even when fit enough to play. I wonder if he was put up there to see if it could exploit his ability on ball and bringing others into play, rather than having to do a lot of running in midfield, and running after opponents
