It’s a huge mistake.

I hear those here saying that it’s difficult for assistant referees to see who is where when the ball is played but, with respect, this was a dead ball situation and he was looking straight across the line. It really doesn’t get much easier than that for a paid official.

At least three United players, probably four, were clearly offside. There was daylight between them and the last Leicester man. Any official who can’t see that should not be officiating at this level.

It’s just further support to the argument that VAR has made our officials lazy. They are way too reliant on technology bailing them out.
My pet hate is players out wide who are looking right down the line but still get caught offside.

So it’s not just Lino’s 😳

But Maguire wasn’t even obscured from his view. He was the closest player to him when the free kick was taken, and was clearly offside. I don’t see how the linesman can’t have seen it.

I get that the other United players being in an offside position is irrelevant. I’m not suggesting otherwise. But I’m really surprised that anyone, anywhere, is suggesting that the error was anything other than an absolute whopper.
Maybe he thinks UTD are the defending team.😳

Although Birmingham deserve a lot of credit for their performance, you do slowly see aggression taking over from effort....there have been a few unwarranted challenges and you can understand why many managers of the top premier league teams do not like these sort of fixtures and are happy that things like replays are scrapped.

100%. Marmoush had studs scraped down the back of his calf. Could have been a season ending injury.

Yes, the Orient player should at least have been carded, and fair play to your new young lad he just got on with it. Perhaps you could get him to give Grealish a lesson or 2.
Marmoush though, handled right, he could be amazing.

Is Jadon Sancho genuinely a better player since he left Utd?

His last season at Utd, 7 goals, 3 assists in 41 games.

Dortmund, 3 goals and 3 assists in 21 games

Chelsea, 2 goals and 6 assists in 21.

When I've watched him at Chelsea, he just looks like a similar player to what United had. The odd decent moment, but generally not great at all.

The odd thing for me is that he will play his best tucked In just behind Haaland. If that is the case, why did Pep not tuck Alvarez behind Haaland. 😳

The answer would be a yes.

He's still a second choice but looks a lot better. That said he was never worth the fee United paid and this is probably his level in the Premier League unless he moves to a lesser club and risks more minutes to improve his career.

He's got the same goals as Hojlund and 4 more assists despite being a back up in the league.

Yeah. He has a few more goals than Onana as well, Onana having a similar amount of chances to Hojlund :ROFLMAO:

I did used to run a line in my younger years when I had to pack up playing because of a back injury. Did it for about four years every weekend before I rediscovered golf.

Yes, it’s difficult. But let’s not make excuses for that error last night. It really didn’t fall into the difficult to call bracket. It wasn’t even close.
I once ran a line but only once as I took offense when the ref run over to me during the match and gave me a bollcking for keep putting the flag up to much 😂😂

Just watched MOTD, some absolute howlers that would have been overturned by VAR. How many people calling for it to be scrapped are now wishing it was used yesterday? :ROFLMAO:

I think most of those wanting it to be scrapped, myself included, are intelligent enough to accept that there will always be mistakes, with or without VAR.

Of course but hasn't VAR been proved to be more reliable than the human eye?

But the human eye is still responsible for reviewing footage. And is still getting it wrong. Repeatedly.

If VAR had corrected ludicrous mistakes by officials 100% of the time, and had done so via efficient and quick reviews of on-field decisions, then great. I’d be all for it.

But those sitting behind the screens still make awful decisions, often taking several minutes to do so. And in their almost complete reliance on the VAR to bail them out, the on-field officiating now is worse than ever, as we have seen this weekend.

So it’s a double whammy. Awful on-field officiating supported by equally awful application of VAR.

But the subject has been done to death on these pages.
