But Maguire wasn’t even obscured from his view. He was the closest player to him when the free kick was taken, and was clearly offside. I don’t see how the linesman can’t have seen it.

I get that the other United players being in an offside position is irrelevant. I’m not suggesting otherwise. But I’m really surprised that anyone, anywhere, is suggesting that the error was anything other than an absolute whopper.

The linesman in the Newcastle match also not covering himself in glory

Are these guys the ones that normally officiate in the Prem ?

Maybe they should use the guys that don’t rely on technology

It’s prob the most blatent offside seen in a while and a linesman right in line couldn’t see it - not good enough for the job

I did mention earlier About the FA CUP and David and Goliath. It’s mint. Glad Birmingham are going up, they could of been tricky for City next season 😁

It’s almost like they are constantly trained and paid to do the job to the highest quality available due to the fact their actions are very key to multi million pound businesses

If it’s too hard for some to be unable to see a basic offside then maybe they picked the wrong career
They made a mistake, we all do. A quiet word is enough not wholesale villification.

I should think the guy feels bad enough without social media crying for his head, at the very least.

The circumstances - last minute winner - have increased the furore, but that decision in the 5th minute and doubt there would be such an outcry.

Let it go I say...

I've stood on the touchline of my grandchildren's football matches and seen grown men bully and berate teenage referees. It's despicable and there's too much of it at all levels. It's sport, no one died.

Think we are going a little ott here

We are talking about the professional game and a very basic decision was missed and cost a team.

No idea how it’s got to people bullying and berating officials at grass roots level

No dark arts about Birmingham - have it!
Although Birmingham deserve a lot of credit for their performance, you do slowly see aggression taking over from effort....there have been a few unwarranted challenges and you can understand why many managers of the top premier league teams do not like these sort of fixtures and are happy that things like replays are scrapped.
