It is interesting how many are comparing Premier League referees to Champions League referees based on the decision of ONE incident. I mean, I'm sure there have been many appalling decisions in the Champions League, at which point pundits and fans start screaming the best referee is Estonia or wherever else is not fit to referee at that level.
One incident that everyone seemed to piss. The Arsenal goalkeeper took a goal kick after the referee blew his whistle. It went to Gabriel who picked the ball up. Bayern players complained, and apparently referee said he wouldn't give a penalty for a schoolboy error like that. The incident is below:
So, for people who love to live by the letter of the law, at what point is the ball considered in play? Seems to me that Gabriel has got away with one here.
