From what I read earlier this year they should be fine as the £100m for Grealish is still in the 3 years, going forward they like most clubs will need to balance the books more. The bigger worry from their accounts going forward I expect is that wages are close to 90% of turnover so they are going to be dependent on a decent jump again in turnover next year (which is very likely currently) without having much room to increase the wage bill
That said if they did need to sell, then they would have several decent options to do so

I know that there are accounting complexities etc involved but in a sport with so much money sloshing around, should any club be allowed to run at a loss. Not a criticism of any club in particular, more that a sport with more money coming into it than most could dream off and that is still not enough.

Maybe Man Utd can still qualify for Champions League then. I think we are now in a position were FFP gives some teams a glimmer of hope. Not because they might actually improve their own performances on the pitch, but because other teams might slip up with FFP and suddenly fall below them in table with a points deduction.
Still think the penalties of FFP are a joke, and don't see why the penalties are simply not limitation to transfer budgets in the future. For example, spend 20 million over budget in one period of time, your budget drops by 20 million in next period (or perhaps 1.5 times what your overspend was, so spend 20 million too much, your next budget falls by 30 million).
Continue to overspend, then you are banned from buying players at all for a period.
Maybe this is too simplistic, but as soon as a transfer window opens, and clubs start buying and selling players, can their budgets not be tracked after each and every transfer? So, the second a club agrees a fee and salary for a player, the numbers can automatically be updated. If they are overspending, the transfer is immediately blocked. I know there are all sorts of financial arrangements, like paying in installments, but surely it can all be accounted for once a deal is sorted. I know at least one chap on this forum who could easily set up a beautiful Excel Spreadsheet for Clubs to use, that would track everything to perfection (not me).

Its a bit of a grand headline but actually its not as bad as it looks. A villa finance twitter person has done a full breakdown and about 40m of that loss gets wiped away anyway and doesn't touch FFP. We generated money last summer (in the new accounting period though) with academy player sales and our few signings are amortised over a number of years.
Our owners know what they are doing, our squad is worth far more than we paid for it, I don't think there is a player who has dropped in value and a few that are probably close to the 100m mark to prise away from us.
I also suspect that 105m mark is going to move upwards this offseason.
Definitely in a strong position player wise. As long as you're not impacted bringing new and better players in then the future is looking good
This is the crux of it isn't it? Villa have built really well, are in a great place to cement themselves as a top 6-7 club. To keep that going they probably need to add this summer. Not volume, just quality. Can they do it or will FFP stop them? Can they add without selling key players?
I hope they are not held back but the reality is they will be in some way.
I've really enjoyed watching them this season. I hope they get Europa League (not the conference thing) and they make a go of it. Downside is it does take a lot out of players with so many games and so you need a reasonably deep squad the further you get

Why do you really hope they get Europa League and not Champions League? Given the position they are in now, I suspect Europa League would be a major disappointment

Honestly don't care what we get our of CL and EL, one would be the next organic stage for us to grow and a higher level of European opponent than this season. The other is the big time which brings with it big money - but we wont compete/ go very far. Might scraoe through the group games in this new format but I doubt much further. I care more that we win the Europa Conference this season.
One things for sure - we will lose this Sunday against spurs.

I don't know. There are a lot of dross teams in the Champions League. Probably expect at least one very poor team in the Champions league group (i know format will be different next year, but still think it is seeded so teams play a range of teams of different qualities). So, unless you are horrific like Man Utd, I'd be optimistic if I was a Villa fan you could be competitive enough to have a good go at advancing to the next stage, and if not, reasonably sure you'll just get knocked down to Europa League anyway (if they are still doing that).

We may do alright, hard to know! Just comparing us to Newcastle in my head really and expect a similar showing. Some good, some bad! Their group was insane though.
Were going to finish 5th I think, still got a European charge this season and Spurs don't. Still got injuries holding us back too.
I meant the Europa conference. The Europa league is a better comp especially when the CL teams drop in. If they could get CL then that really would be an achievement

There is another stat - Arsenal have scored more away goals in the last 4 games than Man Utd have all season
I thought our differential (or whatever the official wording is) had us dropping down and the extra place going to one of the other leagues
