Ah the same old inability to look at Rashford’s record and judge him objectively. One good season? Embarrassing to think that.
 
Marcus Rashford has gone on record and said

I’m judging him based on years of seeing him at close quarters.

Years of seeing him run down blind alleys into a clutch of defenders, lose possession and stand there with his arms outstretched.

Years of seeing him hit the deck like he’s been hit by a sniper’s bullet when he’s tackled, taking an age to get back to his feet.

Of seeing him make the wrong decision time and time again. Failing to track back, failing to pick a pass to a teammate better placed, blasting free kicks into the wall or Row Z.

Sure, there have been moments of absolute brilliance. There is absolutely no doubt that Rashford WAS capable of the extraordinary. But I emphasise the word was because those moments have become a rarity. And whilst he was producing them he balanced the books far too often by making an utter hash of the ordinary.

So, I’ve made my mind up based on nearly a decade of paying to go and watch him play. I’m not relying on rehashing press and media soundbites.

His contribution all this season has been awful. And, despite his goals last year, a lot of his performances last season were almost as bad. Because despite what his stats say, those goals tended to come in bursts, with lengthy periods of dross similar to what we see now.

Nobody should be fooled by the goals last season. And nobody should judge him based on them.

I’m not doubting your analysis at all. His best season was pre-Covid. But if he is as bad as you say, why hasn’t the man who matters, the manager, given him a run in the reserves with an instruction to find a consistent run of form? Is Utd’s squad that bad that he’s guaranteed a place?

As a Utd fan, I'd be desperate to see the qualities in any player, and hope that player develops. I've been positive about Rashford for years, and probably been more patient with him than any other Utd player ever. Because, in moments, he does unbelievable things few others are capable of

But, even last season, when he scored all those goals, I said if you watched the highlights on MOTD he'd look a world beater. 1 or 2 goals, maybe 1 or 2 other dangerous moments. He'd feature a lot.

But, when watching the game live, for the rest of the game (I.e. for the other 200 or so "moments" in the game) he does very very little. In possession poor, tackled a lot, bad decisions, bad passes. Out of possession next to nothing. Compare that to most other players in good teams. Foden, Silva, Gallagher, Mac Allister, Maddison, Diaz, Jota, etc. Even if they score no goals, there are many many moments in games where they do really nice things, show real quality in possession to keep momentum with their team. And work hard to get ball back ASAP, and do it well.

Even if Rashford is scoring, Utd will never control a game when players like him are so careless in possession (I'd put Bruno in that camp as well). They'll struggle to get possession in 50/50's when Rashford refuses to challenge. And Utd will always struggle out of possession when players like Rashford offer nothing. And if Rashford isn't scoring, horrific. Rather than knuckle down to turn the tide in his favour, he goes off to nightclubs in Belfast and releases videos telling the world how his life has been so tough and the sacrifices he has made for Utd. Laughable, and highlights his character. I never cry about the sacrifices I make for my 9-5 job, it pays the bills.

Maybe he could start by sacking his brother agent. Could be wrong, but maybe he isn't the greatest influence.

It was no spoof. It was reality :)

I'm not surprised any manager publicly backs their player though. It would be interesting to be a fly on the wall though, see what happens behind closed doors at Man Utd.

One game we have the video of Barkley walking around Rashford. No sooner after that, Bruno auditioning for Platoon. On paper, people might say our 2 biggest players at start of season. In reality, our 2 biggest disappointments

Sometimes perceptions of a player’s performance are clouded by a few mistakes on the pitch. I genuinely don’t know either way but I wonder what Rashford’s optistats and heat map look like. Without a doubt he’s had some rank bad performances, but all players do. And at times he is very lazy but I wonder what his stats are like.

As for having his brother as an agent :unsure::oops: noooo…

Honestly, it is not just a few mistakes. I watch every game, I cast a more critical eye on performances of Utd players than any other team. Just like other fans do with their own clubs. He has truly been abysmal. It is only fleeting moments he might create a bit of danger, but at all other times I tear my hair out.

And if anyone doubts my opinion because I watch on TV, it seems match going fans are equally angry. I think we are desperate for him to just do the basics, whilst still having mega dangerous moments. But the fundamentals are not even close to being there. And if his mentality is that he is a victim, then I think he will always struggle as he doesn't need to take responsibility for his attitude. Whereas if he had a fighting spirit and looked to grasp the position he is in, he would work hard to show us how good he can be.

He isn't a victim. He plays for a top global football club, earns millions, young and seems fit and healthy, and hopefully his family are to. He is one of the luckiest people on earth, he should be pinching himself every day. But I guess if you grow up in that environment, some take it for granted

hahaha, I should have read the article.

Although, I think my comment still stands. I suspect there aren't just a lot of Man Utd fans in London. There'll be a few Liverpool fans in London demanding Klopp wins it. There'll probably be demonstrations for him to win the Lincolnshire, Scottish Highlands, County Fermanagh and Siberian manager of the Year awards as well :)

Well, Rashford has zero chance for that award then. Unless he scores 10 against City, and then continues that streak all month. Actually, even then he has zero chance.

Think the players player used to get the players to vote late March and then award in April but think it’s changed now and the Award isn’t until August
