Some were very good footballers but some were also mainly thugs who could play a bit. The composition varied 🤷🏻‍♂️

Plenty made a living out of just kicking players or being hard in the tackle back then

Suspect there are a good amount of players who wouldn’t survive in the current game

Ball ,Kendall and Harvey.
great footballers but they could be as dirty as any other team.

The games changed ,imo players cheat to much now.
But Frannie Lee was no stranger to the odd obvious dive.🙈😂

Wash your mouth out. Colin and Howard wouldn't hurt anyone. Alan.........👀😂.

There have always been good footballers who would 'leave one' on a player. Souness is probably a great example of that. There are also the likes of Vinnie Jones who was an average player but had a role at Wimbledon that was pretty blunt. This was exposed when he played for Wales and international refs wouldn't let him get away with his regular stuff.

Souness would have been fine in the modern era, he didn't need the extras. Some others would have disappeared without being able to kick people.

Yes my dad took me to watch Liverpool/ Everton every week depending who was at home.
Thats when footy was 3pm on a Saturday.
The golden vision was one of my hero’s what a footballer.
until I seen sense and decided Liverpool were for me.😉

Handball ? Two penalties in the Luton game bit of a joke.
Whos in VAR Paul Tierney.

Yet in the Forest game VAR didn’t ask the ref to have a look???
Just so poor.

I think De Zerbi should be charged with a criminal act. He wasn't at game yesterday as he was unwell, so he was in constant communication with bench on the phone.

It was a 3pm kick off, so he clearly has dodgy box. Arrest him :D

He was also suspended for the game as he was booked last time out .more power to him to have an invasive dental procedure on a Saturday.

Still wondering how we weren’t awarded a penalty but then remember that VAR is a useless waste of time 😂

good game though with some decent goals from both teams

Have to say when I first saw it yesterday I definitely didn’t think it was a pen.

But having watched it back again a couple of times, it was one of those “I’ve seen them given” type ones. We’ve had similar given against us in the past, but a team like ours won’t get one in a million years. Redknapp’s analysis on Sky Sports of the incident was spot on. Keeper raised his arm and caught Awoniyi’s leg.

See Jota v Newcastle, a million times softer than this one but given by the same useless ref, if you need any other evidence of the pathetic lack of consistency on stuff like this.

Football isn’t a game of perfect. Misplaced passes, shots that hit the corner flag, own goals, ball through the keeper’s legs, keeper drops the ball at the opposition striker’s feet, managers get the tactics wrong or don’t use the subs well. And then some players lose form.

Refs make mistakes, and some are real howlers. We beat our chests at offsides that aren’t offsides and penalties not given. But let’s not get carried away with the hysteria of it all. Are our expectations unrealistic?

A lot of the time, yes. Although when you see the 2 handballs given in the Luton game, you do begin to think some decisions slip below more than 99% of people's expectations

I totally agree with “refs make mistakes” etc.

But…..at the very top level of the game, is it unrealistic to expect consistency across different games from THE SAME referee…..? I’m not so sure on that one.

Did you think Jota v Newcastle was a pen?

(Genuine question. Perhaps you didn’t and said so at the time, in which case fair enough)

I think Jotas was very soft because of the way he went down but I believe both incidents are victims of the VAR process

Taylor had given the penalty then VAR wouldn’t have overturned it just as if the ref hadn’t given the pen for Jota then VAR wouldn’t have sent the ref to the monitor

Both subjective calls

Even Mr Newcastle thought Forest were hard done by on MOTD for both the penalty and the fouls (on MGW and then Nico Dominguez) on the lead up to their third.

Seen it all now 😂

The saddest part is the squad we now have has some of the most exciting players I’ve seen in a Forest shirt for years, and going down means we’ll be stuck with bang average squad members again when they all have to be sold :(

Players don’t get a second chance ,in slow motion.
VAR promised to stop mistakes like the ones we’re seeing.!

Do you think Jota’s was a penalty? Just a simple yes or no.
