Decent way for Rashford to dampen the noise although I do think he is aloof and has a superiority complex that could be unsettling. However he is clearly still a vital cog in a still spluttering maching. A match they were cruising and suddenly its panic stations. Great goal from Mainoo and he looks a real prospect and needs looking after

It won’t be the first time people getting a little carried away with young players

Mainoo has started well so far but has played 8 senior games , shouldn’t be near the England senior squad yet , let him develop through the age groups like other players - there are a good number of young English midfielders that are ahead of him at this moment and have shown it over a longer period - he may will prove to be a mainstay in the years to come but a long way to go yet

Never happens with any of the Liverpool youngsters does it? It happens at all clubs and youngster has a great game is suddenly the finished article (Bradley????). It depends on how he is managed. Chelsea have been poor at this in the past where Arsenal have been very good especially in the Wenger era and who can forget the Man United "can't win a title with youngsters" generation

Literally 2 days ago said "England have another right-back to pick from" when you thought Conor Bradley was English.

Mainoo plays as a defensive midfielder, where I think England have Rice, Henderson, Phillips and Gallagher.

Yeah but can they defend šŸ˜–šŸ˜‰
Mainoo and Rice both defensive midfielders. That is probably more defensive than many England fans want to be fair, but I think it is the foundation of a very solid central midfield.

Plus, you can speak on behalf of Foden, Grealish and maybe Palmer. Can they put in a defensive shift when required?

I appreciate TAA isn't capable though, I concede that :)

The same Conor Bradley that’s played 50 senior games and gone through the age groups internationally

Mainoo has started 8 games in his senior career - how many young players with great reputation have started well and then bombed or dropped down the leagues.

The list is endless of players in the same position that haven’t come through - give him a season and see how he goes though England under 20’s first

TBF Phil, Mainoo has more youth level caps than Bradley. so he’s ā€œgone through the youth groupsā€. Obviously Bradley will get a full cap sooner as it’s only NI.

I’m not convinced Mainoo should get in the england squad, but I’d rate his 8 games for utd as more telling than Bradley’s 40 for a league 1 side. I think it’s a fair shout to say your sweeping statement on him after his performance against Chelsea equates to those wanting Mainoo capped. By your own admission you took info from the commentators, so I’m not having it that suddenly you know all about his performances whilst on loan.

Conor Bradley has already had 13 full international caps for his country after having 12 games at various youth levels a Mainoo 13

Mainoo has had 8 senior games , Bradley is just over 70 including International games

Think there is a difference in the career paths so far for both of them even if a good number of seniors games aren’t in the Prem

Both have made a great start to their career and yes fans from all teams can get ahead of themselves when it comes to young players and that includes Bradley

As for England young midfielders

Ramsey
Wharton
Jones
Elliot

All should be ahead of him at the moment

You are like David Brent in that episode where the smart graduate comes in, and he goes and researches something to impress the graduate, the grad then adds something else to the conversation that he doesn't understand, so Brent goes away to do more research, and comes back to try and show he knows it all, only to be outdone again.

You have now explained to us that Conor Bradley has 13 international caps, and using these to back up your theory that we shouldn't be getting carried away by Mainoo, yet it was OK to say what you did about Bradley. I'm assuming you were completely unaware of those 13 international caps when you suggested he was an option for England???

I'm Northern Irish, so I'm delighted to see Bradley do well. Well, I hate he plays for Liverpool, but from an international perspective I'm delighted. Any Northern Irish player that does well at a top PL club may well be considered the next George Best by many of us Northern Irishmen (even if it was a goalkeeper). But I think it is right to get "carried away" by promising youngsters. Why not, when they "could" have a big future. They don't all go in that direction, but inevitably some will. I'm sure people got carried away about Rooney, Bellingham, Owen, etc after a handful of senior appearances. And they went on to have great careers. I think Brazilian Ronaldo went to the 1994 World Cup at the age of 16. Didn't play, but I'm sure it was a great experience for him.

Obviously I don't think Mainoo would just strut into the England set up if the Euro's was next week, after 8 games (albeit, given what I've heard about him before he made his senior debut, he has impressed for quite some time). But, as I said, we've got a fair way to go between now and end of season, and if he stays fit and continues to play well then I don't think he can be completely ruled out.
