You are like David Brent in that episode where the smart graduate comes in, and he goes and researches something to impress the graduate, the grad then adds something else to the conversation that he doesn't understand, so Brent goes away to do more research, and comes back to try and show he knows it all, only to be outdone again.

You have now explained to us that Conor Bradley has 13 international caps, and using these to back up your theory that we shouldn't be getting carried away by Mainoo, yet it was OK to say what you did about Bradley. I'm assuming you were completely unaware of those 13 international caps when you suggested he was an option for England???

I'm Northern Irish, so I'm delighted to see Bradley do well. Well, I hate he plays for Liverpool, but from an international perspective I'm delighted. Any Northern Irish player that does well at a top PL club may well be considered the next George Best by many of us Northern Irishmen (even if it was a goalkeeper). But I think it is right to get "carried away" by promising youngsters. Why not, when they "could" have a big future. They don't all go in that direction, but inevitably some will. I'm sure people got carried away about Rooney, Bellingham, Owen, etc after a handful of senior appearances. And they went on to have great careers. I think Brazilian Ronaldo went to the 1994 World Cup at the age of 16. Didn't play, but I'm sure it was a great experience for him.

Obviously I don't think Mainoo would just strut into the England set up if the Euro's was next week, after 8 games (albeit, given what I've heard about him before he made his senior debut, he has impressed for quite some time). But, as I said, we've got a fair way to go between now and end of season, and if he stays fit and continues to play well then I don't think he can be completely ruled out.
That’s a great episode of the office 😂😂
And a great anolagy 😂😂

Your right.
I think Maimoo should go.
Hes the future of the England team.
Take him even if he’s not needed, it will be good education for when we do need him. Next World Cup maybe

Taking older players might be a risk but they are there for their experience we need a mix.

The fact he’s a defensive mid should please GS he likes a defender or two.!

Yeah. I'm not sure England need a player there like Henderson, just for the experience. I think they've loads of experience and confident players in that squad anyway. Assuming players are fit and picked, he'll have players like Pickford, Walker, Trippier, Maguire, Shaw, Stones, Rice and Kane who have bags of experience. And Bellingham plays like he has the mentality of a 38 year old seasoned pro.

So, 33 year old Jordan Henderson (who was never at world class level anyway, like a Pirlo type player) does seem like a wasted spot in many ways. Especially after half a season in Saudi Arabia (which sounds like a complete failure) and another half a season in the Dutch League (a league that apparently allowed Antony to flourish)

Being honest once I read the first paragraph where the conversation has started to get a little bit more person about posters it’s time to ignore the rest of the multiple paragraphs

I think we need to accept this is the last rodeo for Gareths boys, the whole gang are going to get the call up even if they dont deserve it.

Shoe ins for selection:

Pickford (mainly deserved)
Henderson
Phillips
Maguire

England won the Euro u23 championship

How many of those players will go this summer ?

I suspect none but there should be the likes

Colwill
Smith Rowe
Curtis Jones
Palmer
Elliot
Ramsey

In the mix

And then players like Gomez should be in the squad no doubt but Southgate will go with tried and tested

The first line was a jovial remark, I wasn't trying to be nasty at all. We all have our quirks, and your quirk happened to remind me of that episode in the Office, that is all. The second line was explaining why I thought that.

Had you gone on to read what followed, you'd have realised I'm not in complete disagreement with you on certain aspects. Bradley does look like a good player, and I also agree it is still very early in Mainoos career. But at the same time, getting excited about young players is sometimes warranted, as they sometimes do become stars very quickly and remain at that high level for a long time to come. So, if Mainoo has a great second half of the season following his promising start, then he shouldn't simply be dismissed from the conversation because he hasn't played in League 1 for a season.

Of course he will. You need to know what you're getting in a major final and the time to experiment is in friendlies and during qualifying especially with the group we had for the Euros. Lets be honest, we all know the same old faces will get in again bar maybe one or two "surprises" and it is simply the Southgate way. Unless England get a manager prepared to blood youngsters and take a few risks nothing will change and a lot of promising talent will never get a serious run at international level

Gordon is another too - he's a great little player!

But alas, we both know we will be lucky to see 2 of that U23 team make the squad this summer.

Imo Smith Rowe shouldn't be anywhere near the intl team. Talented maybe, but done nothing for a year (big injury I believe).

Gomez looked class alongside VVD like 2 years ago, but ATM he plays as a full back and he doesn't get in ahead of any of the usual suspects at full back.

Taking him at cb would be brave and Southgate is not.

I think Palmer will go, unless he has a quiet second half of season

Mainoo, Rice and Bellingham in the middle. Saka/Palmer/TAA right. Foden/Grealish/Rashford left.

England could have a hell of a midfield for the next 10-15 years.
you forgot Anthony Gordon....biggest waste of £40million they said last January.

I think his performances this year demonstrate otherwise. Deserves a place in the squad.

Gordon is good, but let's be honest, he'll be a physical and mental wreck at end of season, having to help carry a depleted Newcastle squad
and now that ive caught up with the thread and have seen this post...

Hopefully we will have some players back in the next month or so (Willock, Barnes) to help ease the load....and you dont have to start Gordon for England....he would be a huge asset coming off the bench later in a game against a tiring full back.

Hes nowhere near currently, was injured for a long time, then played great at the U21s then injured again and only just getting back in the Arsenal team (if and when Arteta trusts him). Needs a good year+ of injury free club football before being an option for England (and maybe a tfr elsewhere sad to say where he will get regular game time)
