So players are expected to jump with their arms by their sides now?

No. But as most of the pundits have agreed it was a foul on the keeper

But putting that decision to one side the rugby tackle on Bowen in the final min was a stonewall penalty

At least you won, we had a dodgy pen given against us then a clear pen not given second after that pen was scored
There is the problem imo.
If we hadn’t won like in the Spurs game dodgy offside .
There would have been a bigger argument about the refs and VAR.

MOTD2 “ respected the refs decisions” but they didn’t in the second game they looked at all the dodgy decisions.!

Thought the pen given was shocking!
But Bowen had both hands around the defender so can see why he didn’t give it,

Interesting

Diaz tackle is an interesting one

Is this a red card

View attachment 51550

There was quite a bit of debate at the time and it was deemed by many a red card

That’s no different to the Kluivert tackle on Diaz , now i don’t think there are any issues with the ref not seeing it because happen quickly but VAR 🤔 - both should be treated the same. If Jones is a red card then so is Kluiverts - and I think there have been multiple cases of the same sort of tackle and there has prob been different outcomes

So the main crux is the lack of consistency from the referees -all teams will have mistakes , so far we have had a couple of high profile ones and so have others , that doesn’t mean it’s right , we got lucky that it didn’t affect the result this time but other teams and including us have had result affected by VAR

and the Jota penalty - defender just took him out

So, I know we are just looking at stills, so they often don't tell the full story. Certainly can't conclude they are "exactly" the same from stills, although the stills might show they aren't exactly the same anyway.

For the Liverpool challenge, you could say contact is high up the shin. He also seems to be lunging into tackle, with an almost straight right leg.

In Bournemouth case, contact looks almost to be top of foot, not high up shin. Both players seemed to make an absolute fair challenge to get foot on ball, but Diaz simply got there first. Had Bournemouth player got there first, then Diaz could easily have made contact with his shin and we'd be having the sane chat about potential red for Liverpool player.

There are probably over 100 incidents over a season where a players studs make contact with another players shin. Still images may make them look similar in many cases. I know I wouldn't give a red for every single one, and I'm sure no one else would either. But because fans will always argue the point when a decision goes against them that could have gone for them, then any individual could be "accused" of being inconsistent if comparing two separate incidents

Strange I mentioned this guy yesterday and I have just read this.
😳
However, one reason behind Manchester City’s immense success within the game is their ability to plan ahead, with their latest strategy concerning the club and wider group’s CEO position, and a potential successor to Ferran Soriano.

As per a new report from MailSport, while there is no sign of Ferran Soriano stepping aside from his current position at the Etihad Stadium, there is a suggestion that City’s group chief operating officer Roel de Vries is viewed as his long-term successor.

Anyone noticed despite Kane getting a load of goals, it looks like he could end up trophyless at Bayern? They're falling further behind Leverkusen and were terrible yesterday.
They played my team yesterday. My brother was in the arena.
Last time we beat Bayern in 2008. Our teams social media looks like we win the Bundesliga ;-)

There was discussion on radio about “flops” this season and saw this article which predicted the flops

Gk Sanchez
RB - Porro
CB - Disasi
CB - Torres
LB- Young
CM - Endo
CM - Mount
CM - Caicedo
RW - Traore
LW - Kluivert
ST - Hojlund

Looks to me a decent success rate

With Porro , Torres , Endo and Kluivert clearly not flopping so far

Is there any one that can be added into the list

Not sure Mount can be included in the list. To be regarded a flop, surely he has to have played more than a handful of games!

I can see why Hojlund is on it, but it is a weird one. As a fan, I really like him in many aspects. But the service to him is atrocious. I would be fairly confident if he played for a Liverpool or City, he'd have scored a good number of goals. Or even a lower side whose players are set up to play into their No. 9.

As for Mount, I'll judge him after he had had a run of fitness and time in the side. But I guess due to his lack of game time, then he could be a flop up to now.

Good to see Onana not in the GK role :)

I agree the service to Hojland isn’t good from your wide men.

But what’s the manager done about it .?
It must come up in team meetings.

I'm sure it does. I doubt the manager is telling them to not pass to Hojlund. I just don't think our wide players are capable, or too stuck in their ways. Only since Garnacho started on right, do I feel Hojlund might get bit more of a sniff

Great finish in AFCON group B tonight.

Egypt needed to win to make it through to the last 16, any other result against Cape Verde (already qualified as group winners) would open the door for either Ghana or Mozambique.

After 90 minutes Egypt were crashing out as they were drawing 1-1 with CV whilst Ghana were 2-0 up against Mozambique. Egypt then took a 93rd minute lead to put one boot into the last 16. Then cue apparent disaster for Egypt as Cape Verde got a 99th minute equaliser. Egypt utterly distraught.....and then they found out that Mozambique had scored in the 91st and 94th minute to knock Ghana out.

If it wasn't for Germany - Austria in Spain '82 we might never have got such emotional drama in the final matches of groups.

I'm sure they'll still win it. 7 points behind but with a game in hand and I can't see Leverkusen remaining unbeaten all season?

I thought that too but from the games I've seen this season they really are off the pace bar Kane and Sane. You'd expect Leverkusen to fall away but they seem to be having the season of a lifetime and Alonso looks the real deal.

Hojlund looks like the sort of striker who would hugely benefit from a “chalk on his boots” winger. A right footer on the right/left footer on the left who either beats his man and whips on in or gets to the byline and pulls it back.

Given how the modern winger/wide forward has been switched for the best part of 20 years (Duff and Robben, with a slice of Henry before, being my first memories of) I do wonder how full backs would defend a “modern Giggs” for example.

Part of me wants to laugh if Kane doesn't win anything but honestly I would feel a bit sorry for him because I genuinely think it was really difficult for him to leave Spurs. And the quicker he wins a couple of league titles the quicker he can come back to Spurs and get that goal record. 👀
