Saka is very talented but at the moment end product isn’t there and I think it’s because he is being overplayed - think managers like Klopp and Pep would have protected him a lot more whilst he develops , reckon it’s the one player that Klopp would take as a replacement for Salah

I'd take Saka too because he's younger. However Rashford has got 20+ goals in three seperate seasons and Saka has yet to get over 15. He plays with a lot of freedom on the right in a very attacking side. He needs to do a lot more. These are facts, not opinions.

Rashford is a left winger/forward and not a Salah replacement. He'd easily start for Liverpool under a proper manager like Klopp on the left. As for Liverpool replacing Salah, it won't happen. Players like that come along once in 20-30 years and can't be replaced. Liverpool have struggled to replace peak Firmino and Mane, let alone Salah.

Rashford is the classic example of a streaky player. Even last season, when he bagged a lot of goals, he went for extended periods, often of several weeks, when his output was zero. And I mean zero. No goals, no assists, no effort. Nothing.

I’d rather have a player who performs at a level below Rashford’s best, but who does it consistently, than I would one who turns up when he’s in the mood.

Do you really think a footballer of Rashford’s stature has form based with any real input on how much he’s “in the mood” or do you think that really it’s because human ability waxes and wanes, they are reliant on others on the pitch around them and they aren’t on a pitch unopposed and have an entire team working to counter everything they do?

My question about Rashford’s ‘disappearances’ is why does his form disappear? I’m not looking to bash Rashford, nor any of the players/mgt but as very much an outsider that watches loads of football I see a number of players at Utd that can put in stellar performances only to disappear for weeks. Have Utd bought in a number of player who struggle to motivate themselves? But there's players who’ve come through the academy with what appears to be a similar mindset… Is it a subconscious ‘group think’ thing whereby they’ve fallen into shared pattern? I’m reluctant to point a finger at Ten Hag because it was there before he arrived. Or is it as simple as a number of players are just not good enough.

I don’t know the answers but I wouldn’t rush to a knee jerk reaction, throwing the baby out with the bath water.

I really don’t know what goes on behind the scenes, Bri, but you only have to watch Rashford and, in particular, how he responds when he loses the ball, to see it’s not an ability thing with him.

I’ve said it countless times. He’ll lose possession and, rather than bust a gut to get back, he’ll stand there, arms outstretched as though it’s someone else’s fault. When he goes to ground under a challenge he stays there. He never drags himself to his feet. And invariably, when he does get up, it’s clear there is little or nothing wrong with him, as he often requires no treatment.

In short, he’s infuriating to watch. Talent to burn, but he’s probably the moodiest player I have seen in nearly fifty years as a fan. There aren’t too many fans I speak to, match going or otherwise, who say different.

To be fair, you asked me a question, and I answered it based on my experience of having seen the player at close quarters and on TV from very early in his career until the present day.

I’m not relying on a lazy cliche at all - I’m offering an opinion based on what I see week after week.

I don’t disagree. All I’m saying is, to a large extent, it looks like there’s a good number of players on a similar spectrum.

Is there really any need to be so facetious?

Just watch Rashford’s performance in the 3-0 home defeat against Bournemouth and tell me honestly that his attitude that day didn’t stink the place out. That one game encapsulates what I, and many others (including the pundits that day) have been saying about the player for far too long.
