It’s often cheaper to keep a known quantity on a higher wage than making a new purchase, hence why the likes of Rashford is on that high a wage. He’s inconsistent but average out his numbers and they’d struggle to replace his goals without a gamble of an outlay.
I agree to an extent but equally, each new contract gets the player a loyalty bonus, the player would bring in money from their sale. You can potentially be paying a lot for mediocrity (relative) using that theory.

Very true. It’s up to the management to decide if it’s better the devil they know!

The Havertz one stands out to me by far.

You have to admire the agents of some of those players. Fair play o_O. Equally, what were the Directors of Football at those clubs thinking?

Would say the top three have earned their wages through their performances and then also Silva and Grealish last season

But the rest you would have to say they need to do a lot of work to earn that level of wages

I guess it also shows how much it costs teams to bring in top level of players when the club isn’t consistently at the top - hence why Utd prob had to pay Varane and Casemiro such high wages as well as coming from Madrid who prob paid the same level

It would be interesting to see how far down the list you would need to go to see the first defenders and keepers. These don't get the attention or pay the same as the prima donnas up front but everyone moans when they make a mistake

Before he left united dea gea was on 300k a week wasn't it?

Varane is the highest paid defender at £340k

  1. Raphael Varane (Man United) - £340,000-a-week
  2. John Stones (Man City) - £250,000 per week
  3. Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool) – £220,000-a-week
  4. Ben Chilwell (Chelsea) – £190,000-a-week
  5. Harry Maguire (Manchester United) – £189,904-a-week
  6. Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) – £180,000-a-week
  7. Kalidou Koulibaly (Chelsea) – £162,000-a-week
  8. Andrew Robertson (Liverpool) – £160,000-a-week
  9. Luke Shaw (Manchester United) – £150,000-a-week

Obviously Koulibaly had gone and think TAA is now on £240k

Alisson is the highest GK at £150k

Then Pickford at £125k , Ramsdale at £120k

I'd say Casemiro earned his too, UTD got top four, plus he will have paid a few quid back in fines.
This year not so much (last night aside).

In regards to clubs overpaying when not consistently at the top. I would agree when enticing new talent, but at times of signing both Varane and Casemiro would have commanded similar wages anywhere. That's what happens when you attempt to buy the end product and not nurture new players.

Yeah Casemiro is fair shout as he was a key player for United last season bar the missing games for the ref cards 😂

Sorry to add to the other Reece James seems to be the next highest defender Varane

It does show how much money in basic wages United are paying players

7 in the top 20

Then below the top 20 there are players like Antony on £200k ?!! Cucarella on £180k

And those Chelsea contracts are long terms as well

Wow, half a million a week chucked away on Martial and Sancho. Unreal. I would also highlight Havertz as the most ridiculous high inclusion in the list. He's done absolutely nothing in English football. Getting paid 40k more than Odegaard who keeps him firmly out of the team.

The Allison wage sounds low, when you think of his transfer fee, and no Ederson?

Seems it’s abroad that pay GKs a lot of money ( after De Gea left )

6. Wojciech Szczesny (Juventus) - £204,434-a-week
5. Gianluigi Donnarumma (Paris Saint-Germain) - £216,150-a-week
4. Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid) - £254,694-a-week
3. Jan Oblak (Atletico Madrid) - £353,685-a-week
2. Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich) - £356,572-a-week
1. David De Gea (Manchester United) - £375,000-a-week

Ederson on £100k

Some of City’s wages can be taken with a pinch of salt I’m sure.

Declan Rice gets £240,000 a week, Havertz £280,000. If Rice's agent had known what Havertz was getting, I'm sure he'd have happily pushed for at least £400,000 a week for Rice :)

I bet Saka, Martinelli and Odegaard will be keen to get a pay rise soon.

Dean Henderson getting the same wage as Ederson is pretty wild. Not to mention Pickford getting more than all but Alisson! No wonder Everton are in the poop.

I'm not shocked about areola tho, being ex psg he was already on a wedge and we needed to secure him.

What is more surprising is we were happy to have him as back up last year

Such a good keeper

He's one of those players that I still think of as a youngster just breaking through, yet he's actually 30. :ROFLMAO: He's got Lingard disease.

Certainly taken his time to get a number 1 slot

Happens when your a psg youth player , much like Henderson being united youth

If Fulham hadn't gone down that year he was being signed by them

We got lucky there

A few weeks ago, I seem to remember you told us all that Lavia had come out after joining Chelsea, and said he'd have rather gone to Liverpool. When repeatedly asked for your sources, you simply stayed quiet. I certainly don't remember you quoting your source anyway, when asked.

Do you think you just pick and choose what rumours you listen to. And, when you read rumours you like, you then spread the word on any forums you are part of and hopefully others will believe them as reliable? And any rumours you do not like, you just don't repeat them, and when others do you are quick to just dismiss them as rumours and very unlikely to be true.
only place I heard the Lavia thing was on here 🤔🤷‍♂️
