I don't recall many, if any, clubs clamouring to sign De Gea last year. Not sure that he would have been that easy to move on.
He wasn't out there as available. Maybe no one would have come in but surely it would have been better to try? Letting any player run a contract down is poor business.
Any player entering the final year of their contract is usually fair game for clubs sniffing around. It's not like his contract situation was a secret.
