This is a nuance that not enough people acknowledge. English fans were tarring their own reputation consistently across Europe from the 70s and a ban was ever more likely with every season that passed. Heysel was an awful catalyst for that ban, but a catalyst it was and not the root cause.

I don’t really accept that, say no one died in Hysel would England teams still have got a long ban? I don’t think they would, it would have been a slap on the wrist of maybe a short ban for just Liverpool fans. I agree English fans were awful back then for a long time but Hysel changed everything imo.

Maybe time to give it a rest - the constant snidey comments aimed at posters directly I’m sure are not in the rules - you don’t want that halo to slip

LP you’ve been told before that if you have a problem with another member to report it and let the mods sort it out.

Time and time again you pull people up and it escalates resulting in someone snapping and having a pop, which results in infractions or worse, for them.

@AmandaJR he does have a point though, time to stop please

Fans dying did make the ban significant but I think even if no one died then I think there would have been a ban happening soon enough - hooliganism was rife and even more so when going abroad and UEFA were doing to do something. Many of the clubs that went into Europe since the late 70’s had incidents abroad and if not they made up for it in the UK with episodes each week. The “firms” were well know back then and there were people seriously injured etc but mainly away from the match.

Even after the ban there were still incidents but mainly with England fans abroad at tournaments etc - the stain will always be there and there are no doubt still some of the old “firms” have a good battle - look at the recent incidents with West Ham

In other news.....does anyone know if Jack Grealish has sobered up yet? Or possibly the correct question is, does anyone know if Jack Grealish has stopped drinking yet?
Hell no. He has the bus tour of Manchester to go this afternoon. He will be in a sorry old state on there. Hopefully someone ties a rope around him so that he doesn't fall out

If Gareth has any sense he will tell him not to bother for the England games coming up.

I doubt it... he loves a party! And deserves to!

He's in the England squad though so I expect he might have a day off the pop tomorrow for a week or two before firmly getting back on the sauce in Ibiza or somewhere later this summer!

Jack did say "sorry Gareth" in his post match interview.

It's taken me a while but I've really warmed to him. Not just as a player but as an individual. What you see is what you get. In a world where sports stars are sanitised and coached in every word they say it's refreshing to hear his honesty and see the man behind the footballer.

Also worthy of mentione - will Tashy survive the day?!

hahahahaha I mean I think he will sort it.. he knows a thing or two about football...

Also tends to let players go at the right time and has the replacement within the ranks already - maybe Foden fills the role next year rather than playing out wide?

The only weird signing I think he's made is Phillips..
Bravo in goal too.

The 17 cbs he's signed all seem to have good 6 month spells then rotated.

Let’s hope the club back him, we need 5-6 players to improve on what we have or will be losing… plus maybe some coaches who know some different tactics 😆

If nobody leaves we need a young left back to back up Emerson

JWP to upgrade soucek

Barnes to compete with the other wingers

And a back up CB

That's it

However when people leave they need replacing. When rice leaves they need to replace

If scamacca leaves needs replacing

Other than that the squad is ok , I mean cornet is over his injury now so we will see more of him and kehrer is settled now

Aguard next captain please

Warburton needs to be gone, heard he is very unpopular

Just to change direction slightly.... no doubt Pep is a good manager, but how do you think he'd do managing a Tottenham or Everton type team for example?

For me until he manages a "lesser" team I'll always have an open question about him.... as its all well and good managing the teams that "should" win things in their own leagues with an open cheque book.

I'd like to see him work with a constrained budget.

I think he'd get the best out of what he's given to work with.

In all honesty though I don't care ;)

See I think we need...

A Left and Right back, Cress is too slow now and Couf is just eratic

A replacement for Rice, Downes might do, but not seen enough to decide.

A replacement for Soucek maybe JWP.

Barnes (yes please)

A replacement for Scamacca and Ings. If we start the season with Antonio leading the line again we will be faves to go down.

Cornet has not shown me anything yet so i'm not sure what he can offer us.

More squad midfielders to replace Pablo and Lanzini.

As well as sorting out the Goalkeeping situation. Make Areola 1st choice and Fab on the bench or get a proper reserve keeper.

What we also need is a director of football to make the above happen as its widely accepted that Sullivan will not trust Moyes with any more money after the Ings and Areaola disasters.

Apart from that roll on next season...

Fixture are out Thursday I think :p

His post match interview was good. You could see what winning meant to him. Easy to dismiss players sometime when they are not playing amazing football, and criticise them for not caring and only interested in their pay cheque. Not sure that argument would ever stand up to Grealish now, having seen him in tears when being interviewed after.

I'm looking forward to the day he gets interviewed after playing a pivotal role in England winning the World Cup....

Cheers for the Ings money though :ROFLMAO: We flogged him and started scoring more!

I don't understand this "cornet hasn't shown anything" thing the fans are peddling , he had a very rare injury most of season so how can he show anything? Plus he looked very promising in Europa before the injury.

Scamacca can stay but if not yes he needs replacing

Pablo is lanzini replacement and lanzini offered nothing this season

Areola isn't a disaster nor is ings

Ings scored vital goals to keep us up in the game needed . Didn't play much as Antonio form returned

Areola couldn't dislodge fab who was in decent form

He also just won us the conference , he is a fine keeper
