Seems to be the way.

Presumably Chelsea are going to have to sell some players shortly. The way they gave spent, are spending, they surely need to balance the ffp books.

wanting to sell and being able to sell 2 very different things as weve found out the last few years, especially when players on top end wages and in no rush to go

Really? Given how open the race is for Champion’s League qualification, and Newcastle’s current position in that race, would you really rather win the League Cup than qualify for the CL?

I kind of get the need for silverware after a long barren period, but the long term benefits of CL qualification, not least in attracting world class players, must outweigh the satisfaction of winning a League Cup.

Absolutely....as a club we are not ready for CL football. Yes the prospect of playing CL football may attract some bigger names to the club who might not otherwise consider us but, given the current squad, we are outperforming in the PL....possibly 3 places above where we might expect/hope to be...and put the bulk of this squad in the CL and we will lose four games against the seasoned campaigners we are likely to come up against.

Europa League is a far better fit for our "progress".

I am never going to use the word offside again. It’s too contentious. But I say that as a renowned goal hanger in the playground as a youth ?
Bring back goal hanging I say.!
would prolong the careers of some great goal scorers.
it would settle a lot of arguments.

just a question to the guys if we don’t like the offside rule ,what should it be.?

I think they should have a line across the pitch at 18 yds and you can only be offside goalside of that line no matter where you are.
like it used to be, it’s up to your teammates to stay onside then.

It must have been a distraction, you have a centre forward running through the middle, the line is looking for offside and you are telling me the GK and defenders aren't aware of him and it is not a distraction, I am sure if it was for Cities 2nd goal UTD would have been in uproar.

As a neutral I would expect that to be ruled offside for both team, being there and running in between the defenders and leading the attack he must cause some form of distraction. We have so over complicated the offsisde rule it is a joke

I too would expect it to be ruled out, IF the offside law included a clause stating that causing a distraction amounted to what used to be referred to as interference. Regardless of our differing views on whether or not such a distraction was caused yesterday, it isn’t included in the current law.

I’m not even sure that including it in the law would actually make things any clearer. Before we know it the VAR will be employing my old Spot The Ball tactic of plotting lines of sight from the players’ eyes to see what they are looking at. The only way we can ever go down the route of including distraction is by saying that, on the balance of probability, a defending player was distracted. And that will cause even more disagreement than we currently have.

I would say the one he interfered/ distracted was Edison.
look at most PL goalkeepers starting positions now that ball without Rashford there Edison clears it 10 yds outside his box .
Because Rashford was there he couldn’t come to the ball.( didn’t stop him in the first half;))
so Bruno gets nowhere near it if Rashford isn’t there .

the rule has so many things wrong with it.

How can you tell that he's not looking at the ball?
Focusing on the ball will also enable him to see the players in clear sight, which would include Bruno preparing to take the shot.

Which player is right by the ball ? Rashford

Thought Richards made a good point in regards Rashford interfering

The defender stepped up to make sure he was offside so that’s Rashford interfering with the play because the defender took himself out of the game to ensure he was offside

it seems other agree

All that said, who are the decision makers re rules within football. I know refs have always had bad press, they are like tax inspectors and dentists in the sense that they will never get a Xmas card. But it seems since the introduction of VAR. The rules are as clear as mud.

So, you'd rule out Grealish's goal as well? Harsh

Hmmm. Did the Fulham player not stand on Trippier? That’s borderline for me. Especially as I sacked Mitrovic off from my Fantasy League team……..
So not just if it’s the team you support but your fantasy league team.

I thought the pull back was a pen, it’s a foul every day outside the box.
