I won't get too hasty. Often our best performances have been against the better sides. Then we have been a bit clueless against the teams that do to us what we have done to City and Arsenal.

But having Maguire and Martinez in defence, Mbeumo and Amad back from AFCON and Dorgu transforming from Phil Jones to Gareth Bale have really helped

I agree United have been capable of snatching results even when in the midst of a crisis, but not with performances like the last two.

They feel very different from the odd standout victory.

Yeah that had crossed my mind re performing against the top sides - unlike Arsenal
:)

Did Amorim play Maguire? He is a leader and sets an example others will feed off.

Yeah.

I felt performance against City was best 90 min performance since Fergie left potentially (or up there with a few of those games when Ole was caretaker).

Today, was more solid. Not as many chances, but Arsenal are a great defensive side.

Just hope they work that hard out of possession against the teams lower in table.

Maguire had been a regular this season until an injury before Christmas. I have said many times, as a previous critic, I am absolutely delighted he has proved me and so many others wrong.

An absolute professional on and off the pitch. Unlike so many United players over the last decade. Had we had more like him, we would not be where we are.

He is starting to remind me of a fine wine.

I thought it was a 4-5-1 set up with Amad and Dorgu helping the full backs.🤷‍♂️
If you watch at times, Utd dropped one of the midfielders into the back four. And made it difficult for Arsenal to use the width. One thing I did see with Utd is there ability to switch the ball quickly from one side to the other cutting out 2 or 3 players by hitting 50-60 yd cross field balls.

Have to say it’s really nice of City and Arsenal to ensure Carrick gets the job full time 😉

Rio is slamming the contract on the table 😁

The suggestion is that Carrick doesn’t particularly see himself as a manager long term. I’m not convinced he would want it. But who knows?

I know there is a clamour for a proven manager. But we’ve been there. And we’ve also gone with an unproven one in Solskjaer.

It’s very early days, but if this carries on, especially the level of performance, Ineos have a massive decision to make.

Carrick is diffrent to OGS imo , different character

As a player he was very clever and as a manager he seems to be doing things a bit simple and putting players in the right place

It is only two games but he isn’t doing himself any harm

He’s very different, I agree. Solskjaer was a manager, but he was a mile away from being a coach. You only had to listen to his post match interviews, which were very superficial, and suggested really strongly that he was totally reliant on his coaching staff. He certainly had no Plan B.

Carrick is way more hands on, which is the primary reason Ineos went for him over Solskjaer. In a week, he’s already seen more age group United games than Amorim did throughout his tenure.

That’s how they were doubling up on Saka and Trossard using Amad and Dorgu, but both were set up further forward as part of the midfield 5 and covered the defence, so at times Utd had 6 even 7 across the back, but were also able to get 3 or 4 going forward.

Carrick should get all the credit for the set up and how hard they all worked.
