Not a shock that Salah isn’t in the CL squad for tomorrow

Reckon he would have started as well

Maybe my paranoia is showing through but it just smacks of he signed a contract so that club will get a fee but on the back of a promise he’s off in Jan, and he’s making sure he’s sold.

I did wonder that but then he would be giving up a major signing on fee, I suppose 400grand a week might compensate for that. It might be more if he has goal and win bonuses in there but this season that’s only about a tenner extra

I don’t know what to think - I think though he still thinks he should be automatic choice

I was hoping this would be a final great season for him linking up with some great players but watching him this season and his legs look like they have gone

When he came on Sunderland he just Jet going down a blind alley and then constantly cutting into the space that Wirtz is looking for and just ignoring Isak

I don’t see now where he fits into the team going forward unless it’s on the other wing and getting balls into the strikers or 10

I think thats exactly the reason he got a 2 yr contract probably with him going in the summer, but since his form has gone south and now his outburst I can see a January exit coming.
Letting him and VVD walk for nothing was never going to happen, especially with Trent doing so.
If Konate doesnt buck his ideas and performance levels up he will also be sold come January if he doesnt sign a new contract.

It's a bit of inevitable decline - we saw in start in the second half of last season really - but also the team looks to have already moved on. He's used to being the main 'striker', despite being on the wing - the team was always set up to get the best out of him, even the striker wasn't a proper striker for most of his seasons. It was a facilitator like Firmino, or Jota. Now with Wirtz coming into midfield, Ekitike or Isak up top, it's no longer the case that everything goes through Salah. And at his age he can't suddenly up the energy and start creating for himself. He needs to be the main man with others putting it on a plate for him again.

For whatever faults Slot has made lately, it would make sense if part of his remit even when taking the job was to prepare for life without Salah. Hence them bringing in two strikers for him when Liverpool haven't had a proper one for so long, and someone like Wirtz to become the new main creator for those strikers.

I dont see him fitting in now. His pace has dropped so much, players he would have left behind are now taking the ball off him.

As a Spurs fan, you are spot on. The Owners knew this season would be a little tricky, maybe not as much as it has been but even so. Next year is the main purpose, and Salah isn't isnt in their thinking and rightly so now.

I don’t agree with Salah’s comments to the press, and, I have to word this carefully being an Everton fan, but, I do have some sympathy for Salah.

From the beginning of the season, even when they were winning, Salah was not often mentioned when LPool’s problem were being discussed, the issues were more slong the lines of new players taking time to settle in, problems in midfield, problems in defence, Isak etc.

Recent results have not been down to chances missed it’s been about poor defensive mistakes or the midfield being over ran.

But it’s Salah that has been dropped, seeing all this, maybe he’s asking why some other poor performers seem to be being overlooked.

I’m surprised by his attitude. But your post suggests he’s not keen on Isak. Is his feathers ruffled because of the original hype around getting Isak?

Other players have also been dropped and highlighted

Only two players have been ever present - Konate and VVD , and that’s down to a lack of options

Premier League only: I think Szoboszlai has started all 15 as well, then you’ve got Gakpo & Gravenbach who’ve started more than Salah with Kerkez & McCallister who have started the same.

So it’s not as clear cut as simply down to lack of options.

The only slight issue with that though, Paul, is the fact that most Liverpool fans who have commented on their woes this season have all said much the same - Salah simply doesn’t pull his weight. His reluctance to track back must have contributed in some way to the midfield being over-run, which in turn impacts on defensive mistakes.

As someone said, maybe here, when Salah doesn’t score or assist, Liverpool might as well play with ten men.

I’m not here to defend Salah per se, some, @clubchamp98 being one, have criticised him for a few seasons, some mentioned how he switched off for the last few months of the season and still put him in their team of the season.

I don’t think his workrate/attitude has been that much different to his last few seasons, but his goals and assists have rightly covered that up and with those not being at the level we’re used to, his flaws are being highlighted.

He has the ability to change a game in an instant, but ask him to track back or defend, the midfield & defense are not as strong and he’s in the spotlight.

Only time will tell if results without him in the team improve.

Did a bit of analysis on Chelsea’s results/fixtures.

The highest league position of any team we’ve beaten this year is Liverpool, in 9th.

We haven’t played away from home against any of the other top 9 sides.

4 of our 7 wins are against the bottom 4 (Ange’s Forest, Wolves, West Ham and Burnley).

The 4 teams we haven’t played are City, Newcastle, Everton and Villa. 3 in the top 6, and Newcastle in 11th.

My conclusion: sack Maresca (well, do it in January).
We’re likely to be bottom half by January and our league position is mostly due to having outrageously easy fixtures.
Now that post has actually shocked me.
One because of the factual information provided.
Two, it’s not very often you get a post on here about your own club without rose tinted glasses worn. And I don’t mean you. 👍
Could Chelsea actually be battling mid table with Utd and Liverpool 😳

I would expect Szob to start most of the games being he is the one main player who has actually been on form . Grav has also been on form for a lot of the season

Gakpo at least manages to get back and support

So as I said it’s just two who have started every game and that’s because of cover

Before Mo was dropped we drew two blanks and Mo has had 3 goals from Open play - but has missed a lot of chances

And he wasn’t getting back to help cover

He contribution this season hasn’t been good enough and that’s why he was dropped also why results have improved without him

Agreed. And some observers also suggest that the departures of Diaz and Nunez have laid bare just how lazy Salah can be, as they did a lot of his work for him.

Only been dropped for 2 games, not sure that’s a fair benchmark.
