Only a ref could think that was a careless challenge!
He done him for skill and Chelsea player pulled out of the challenge imo
Maybe a classic case of VAR looking at something far too many times, and finding a reason to eventually convince themselves they should get involved.

Then the ref feeling he must change his mind, because otherwise why would his peers question the original decision if they didnt think he was wrong.

VAR just doesn't work in so many cases. If it is used (penalties and red cards) I still think it should be at the request of the manager, they get one call per half (and keep it until their call is deemed wrong)

...was out but heard the stramache about the disallowed goal amongst pundits on the radio so just had a look for myself....utterly laughable.

The penalty wasnt much better given that Pedro appeared to be juggling the ball and then a Chelsea forward stood on the toe of the Fulham defender....only problem was the Fulham defender just hopped briefly in pain instead of going down and writhing around like an eel.

The ref makes the decision at the end of the day!

VAR can show him the footage just like we saw.
But he has the last decision and it’s totally on him.
How he didn’t see the handball 🤷‍♂️ but a careless challenge shocking !

He will be in Division one next week if his assessor tells the whole truth in his report!

Yeah, the ref shares a lot of the responsibility.

But when VAR intervenes, they don't do so by saying "we completely agree with your original decision, but go and spend 2 or 3 minutes to review it anyway"

The VAR thinks the original decision is likely wrong. So many decisions are subjective. So it can be easy to find cases for either decision, especially when your peers are influencing your thinking by suggesting your original decision is incorrect. Even if you are 95% certain, that 5% of doubt can become a huge factor when someone else has pushed you into that line of thinking

I think VAR should be focusing on all the reasons the original decision is correct, not finding a reason why it might be wrong. And, if they struggle to find a reason why the original decision is correct, then intervene
