Taiwo needed emergency surgery and now likely to miss the last two games of the season. All because a lino can’t flag for offside when the attacking player was in another postcode. Cheers for that 👍

No wonder Marinakis was so livid

It’s one of the issues with offsides and VAR - if the linesman had flagged and was shown to actually be on side then the complaints would be about var deciding etc etc

It’s not the first time

But the injury and collision would still have taken place because it all happened at pace

And suspect the anger can also be pointed at medical staff and the player , manager was clearly asking if the player was ok to continue and the message was that he is hence why they made a different sub

I wouldn't be surprised if our medical staff were all handed their P45s straight after the game against Chelsea, to be honest.

I also like it because they are passionate about what they talk about. I don't want to hear some robot talking about a game of football. I want to hear some anger, joy, frustration from pundits who know their football, but are also emotionally involved. I can agree with them sometimes, I can disagree sometimes, but that is what football is about. Strong, emotional opinions.

This is what punditry is all about for me.

Mccoist is a perfect example of someone who is just passionate and enjoy good football without any perceived bias

When someone is commentator they aren’t there to be seen to be cheering on one side or the other - that’s no different to fans commentating

You can hear the delight in the likes of Neville and Ferdinand when someone scores against Liverpool and also Carragher when someone scores against Man Utd and then both always looking to find ways to be negative regardless of the results

They can’t hide their bias

No issues with them as pundits after or with other clubs but think they shouldn’t doing their rival clubs

Unless it’s against each other

Clearly seems like a miscommunication somewhere and also what did they player say
I would NEVER ask a player if they're ok to continue. Almost always they're going to say they're fine, due to their competitive nature. Particularly in this case, Taiwo's had a down year, with injury setbacks and hasn't scored in forever - he's probably desperate to just contribute and help the team.

The issue is they are best placed to make the choice of if they are feeling pain etc

It’s prob a lot of things just going wrong

If they had waited 5 mins then they prob would have been fine - all seemed a bit of a panic

Now that Marinakis has been vindicated, I look forward to recognition of this and apologies from all those pundits and "experts" who condemned him. Especially that utter clown Gary Neville. I shall not hold my breath.

Again, though, if they are not 100% certain, they can't flag. If they did, and it was onside, they'd be crucified.

I appreciate it might have been miles offside (didn't see it), but sometimes even clear offsides are not clear live, as a fraction of a second earlier they might have been onside and the lino may not be 100% certain the exact position when the ball is played. I'd still say they are professional and trained enough to make the call better than 99.9% of the rest of us in any given moment.
You might as well just scrap linesmen altogether then. If they're not going to flag in the moment, and we're just waiting for everything to be confirmed by VAR, what purpose to the linesmen serve? The guys watching the VAR screen can do everything they do now.

The linesman still flag immediately when THEY are 100% sure it is offside. They will also flag a bit later, once the move has fizzled out, if they thought it was offside. If VAR had to make every decision, then there would be even more wasted time and injuries, as it would take too long to confirm an offside

Of course, if VAR tech ever becomes much more advanced and can make instant decisions, then perhaps linespeople can be scrapped. Or kept on just for an extra pair of eyes to help ref on subjective calls like fouls.

It amuses me that better technology usually means less people employed to do the job manually. Whereas in football, the more tech you introduce, the more people they need to employ to use it.

What do you mean vindicated ?

Still shouldn’t have come on the pitch to demonstrate with the manager which was the issue people were pointing out - that’s still valid is it not ?

Do it away from the cameras was the point

Yeah, but they don't do they? Or they only flag the ones when everyone in the world can already see it's offside, everything they are waiting on, so they don't get told off. I feel like their role is being continually diminished now, to the point that we could almost get by without them. Especially with this semi-automated offside process coming in.

I've rewatched it a couple of times and I really can't see why anyone other than those who seek controversy think it's a big deal.
Walks on pitch looking a bit flustered. Ushered off pitch by Nuno after a few words. Am I missing something?
It's not even all the pundits making a fuss. Chris Sutton and Danny Murphy both commented it was just a brief show of passion and not a big deal.

It’s all about the optics

This is someone who has been banned in Greece for 5 months for going onto the pitch to confront the ref

Been banned in the Prem

Been fined also in the UK after allegations towards refs etc

Plus a number of other allegations with some still on going

He is clearly passionate and loves the club

But needs to stop going onto the pitch in that manner because the ammunition is there - there is a time and place , speak to the manager after

Neville etc will always go over the top but the media will blow it up - don’t give them the chance

He owns the club , but his place isn’t on the pitch , don’t put his manager into that situation in the first place

Wouldn’t want any owner or director anywhere near the pitch in the immediate aftermath

I'm pretty certain (from speaking to people who were in the ground), that he was wandering towards the medical staff, incensed, but Nuno intervened and tried to calm him down.

I still wish he hadn't done it as it just creates ridiculous, unnecessary drama and false narratives for people to ride on, as we've seen the last few days, but would I have another owner over him? Absolutely not.

Owners shouldn't be on the pitch, full stop. Whatever he was saying, the optics undermine the manager. Get the manager in his room afterwards, ask the questions then. Going out on the pitch is playing to his ego, nothing more.

That’s exactly it

He certainly isn’t a back seat owner and clearly is very passionate and has done brilliant for the club

Just needs to curb some of those “reactions”

Don't really care about the optics some people choose to see.
His passion for Forest and Nottingham is obvious and seems as real as his passion for Olympiacos and Piraeus.
I didn't have that strong an opinion of him until I watched a short documentary and interview recently and did a bit of reading. What he does for the communities in his home and adopted cities is impressive. That would provide good optics but he doesn't seem to fanfare it; he just bankrolls it.
I like him. This negativity is just noise.

Really? You'd not take Newcastles owners PIF over him?

Or City's who have managed to fight their way up to like 8 PL titles and avoiding charges left right and centre.

Might be dodgy money but they're solid owners.
