I think (though obviously I don't know the lad personally), that it was the former.
It's a difficult situation, I'm pretty sure it would be illegal/unethical to force someone to go under the knife.
And no operation is 100% safe. Stuff goes wrong sometimes.
Given that we would have been unlikely to have finished much higher this season, and hoping he won't miss too much of the next, it's probably not ended as badly as it might.

In all seriousness, he is one of the very few players in our squad who have the pace and mentality to go past a man. We are generally exceedingly one paced, and that pace is not fast! So not having him a available is more of a miss than you might expect.

So unless you’re an advocate of the view that there’s one rule for The Protected Six and a different one for everyone else, there’s no reason why Marinakis and Forest should have any issues.
