Thought about it, I won’t lie!

First half, really good. Then the game should have been dead and buried only for Garnacho to make an utter hash of probably the best chance of the game.

For the next twenty minutes and then into extra time, we saw the United we have seen too often this season.

But those last six minutes were utterly mental. Never known an atmosphere like it at OT in all my years going, and I’ve seen some big games there over the years. What made it all the sweeter was Lyon’s antics when they thought they had the game won, and the time wasting which went unpunished by a very poor referee.

Bruno? Outstanding. As was Maguire. And I tip my hat to Onana. Thought he had an excellent game.

Time for bed. I’m all in.
And it seemed Casemiro transformed into De Bruyne for the last 5 minutes

If there the strongest the standard is not very good.
I thought they were very average.

Since the changes and the CL clubs didn’t come down the standard isn’t elite and you now have situations where mid table teams from leagues can get into the CL

Spurs and United have a massive chance

Bilbao is the other team to worry about

I can't lie. Kind of pleased for Man Utd, mainly because the reds on here are so nice! Also very pleased for Maguire. The guy has heart and a professional work ethic. He proves that sometimes hard work pays off.

Amanda, the realist in me knows that the mayhem of that extra time should never have happened. At 3-0 that tie would have been over. I had said to my kids that we needed a third because, for too long, when United concede one, others follow.

But a huge part of me will be forever grateful to Garnacho for missing that sitter. Because that allowed Lyon back into the game, and for United to help me make a memory with my son and daughter, the likes of which don’t come round too often.

I’m middle aged and grey. When they’re old and grey with kids of their own they’ll remember last night. Making memories is so important and sport is a great part of that.

I don’t care if we’ve had an awful league season. Or that the game last night was in Europe’s second tier. That comeback at the death was what my club has always been about.

Fabulous night.

What has happened to European teams? We can all agree united and spurs have been woeful all season. Even Madrid were woeful against arsenal, they got bossed at their own ground.

Has European football been this weak? Only psg look truly up for it

I’ve been saying this for a while, although I’d add Barca to PSG.

It’s the same in the prem tho.
Liverpool have walked it & that’s not a great Liverpool team.

Kids are not playing as much footy.
The pool of talent is shrinking imo.

Never thought of that 🤔

You might be onto something tho,we would play for hours on the street.
Jumpers as goal posts.
You don’t see that around here anymore.

I also think it’s because young players are set for life & treated like superstars after a few decent performances.

Maybe in England . However Brazil , Argentina, Africa it's still players playing out of poverty

To be honest, Paul, in the afterglow of last night I really don’t care. For me, at least, that’s a conversation for another day.

What about Barcelona or Inter ?

In what way is European football weak ?

Yep. All the football seems to be "serious", playing for and organised by local teams. They should be playing for fun without parents shouting from the sidelines and without the need for referees.
I fell in love with football playing anything from one-man Wembley or 2-a-side with rush goalies up to 20-a-side. Club football on Sunday mornings was the least fun.
Rarely see groups of kids kicking a ball about around us anymore either.

One man Wembley 🙌
Now we’re talking.

And regardless of the score,as soon as whoever owned the ball had to go home it was next goal winner 😂

Thankfully I live around 3 parks and when me and the daughter go for walks around them there are loads playing football - anything from 3 or 10 plus lads and lasses playing across the various parks using a portable goal or treats etc

Then Sundays the two big local parks are full of organised games with any size of teams

The issues some areas have is prob the lack of green space

But football is still much alive and well at youth level but it has reduced at adult level I believe

A lot of the increase in youth football is down to more girls playing

My grandsons must be the exceptions then

Each play for different clubs Saturday and Sunday mornings and, therefore, train withosr clubs.

Both play for their schools.

The rest of the time they kick a ball about in their back garden.

No shortage of clubs and opportunities round here for youngsters.

However, I agree that the number of 18+ players has drastically reduced.

My lad was the same. Football crazy when he was at school. But the opportunity became much more limited once he was no longer playing at youth level. And there’s a massive leap from playing youth football to adult level, primarily in terms of physicality.
