Wow….Man U look so much better and more organised since that full week of training we had before the Liverpool game. Didn’t think we were in trouble at all before the sending off.

I like that Amorim didn’t bring on Eriksen and Casemiro. Letting those guys (and Rashford go) should free up some wage bill and we can give Mainoo/Amad what they want, I know we have only drawn 2 games, but, they’d have been matches (especially today) that we would have lost. That said, Havertz was the gift that kept on giving.

100%. Just one of. I've liked Ugarte, De Ligt, Mazraoui and Amad this season. Maguire is looking refreshed, and even Bruno is starting to look at bit more decent, consistently (though will wait more time to see if he sustains it)

Na, only a silly person would do that. I believe he has been one of our better players this season, judging on that :)
Maybe it’s just the drop in standards at United - not sure any of those gets in many of the current top teams

Any time Havertz fails is a great time for everyone
Listening to legohead on 5live on the way home tonight you can would think he was managing the greatest Arsenal team that’s been seen

Been a good start to 2025 for Maguire and De Ligt, it was only the Newcastle game on Dec 30th we were told they had no pace and weren’t the right 2 to play together at the centre of defence.

Maguire’s made more comebacks than Status Quo.

I like that he appears to have found a nucleus of players he can trust. And the fact that at least one player is a million miles from that squad appears to confirm that those of us who have questioned that player’s attitude for a long time appear to have got it spot on.

Defensively, it seems as though the players are settling into Amorim’s system. They look infinitely more solid, and seem way more cohesive without the ball than they were under ten Hag. There is a shape and structure there now, and the players seem to now understand what is required of them.

What we lack, given the players in that system, is much in the way of an attacking threat. But that will come when we have more attacking minded wingbacks. In the absence of such players, we are effectively playing five defenders behind/alongside Ugarte and Mainoo, and that lacks cutting edge.

But that will come as the manager has the chance to bring the right players in. Make us difficult to beat, and then work on the rest.

Amorim said there would be tough times. He’s not daft. But I’m really liking what I’m seeing so far.

I think what was actually said that day was that is was questionable playing them behind a pair as slow as Casemiro and Eriksen.

Maguire and De Ligt aren’t the quickest. I’m sure they’d tell you that themselves. But you can’t expose them by playing a legless pair in front of them. That was a poor decision, and it was ruthlessly exposed.

With a more dynamic pair like Mainoo and Ugarte the lack of pace is less of an issue.

I’m sure Gary Neville said a lot more than that, after the Newcastle game fans were talking about getting to the end of the season and having a clear out, and I think it was Junior describing Utd as a car crash of a team.

Maguire has always worked hard, but been used as a scapegoat by both Utd & England fans.

Maguire is a no nonsense center half, what you see is what you get.
Most teams now want to play from the back now and he’s not suited to that role in most sides.
Agreed he’s been used as a scapegoat when things aren’t going well.

And we do need a clear out. Rashford needs to go, along with Casemiro and Eriksen. Same goes for Lindelöf, Antony, and very probably Shaw, given he now seems crocked permanently.

But I didn’t hear anyone advocating a sale of the entire squad. Not even Neville. There are players there who very clearly have a future and, with the right signings, there is a foundation there.

As for Maguire, there are times he has been an absolute disaster. But I’m not alone in saying more than once that he deserves enormous credit for the way he has conducted himself. The fact that he has put in some first class performances of late is really nice to see, and if that leads to a longer term future at the club than seemed likely twelve months ago then good on him.

This “none of your players gets in a top side” argument always has been, and always will be, a bit of a moot point.

How many Forest players walk into the Liverpool, City, Arsenal or Chelsea sides? Probably none, but it’s the sum of their parts which matters. And they’re not doing too shabbily.

Forest

Aina
Murillo
Milenkovic
Anderson

That’s four that I would take

The lack of quality within the Man Utd in multiple areas is a one of key reasons why they are poor right now

Think one of the key things for a top level cb right now is pace

The top ones are able to use their pace to recover - Maguire is a perfect CB for a team that drops deep and looks be solid and get a head on the ball to clear it . But him and De Ligt have a lack of pace which is easily exposed at times

Yoro the young lad is one that has a lot of pace
