Oliver wont consistently repeat his actions because he wont be backed by his bosses. His colleagues wont back him up neither.

Look at how the FA responded to City players circling around Simon Hooper v Spurs. Any initiative to respect refs will be futile.

On a seperate note refs dont interact with players no more. Rarely do you see refs explaining their decisions.

Oliver already has the inconcsistency evidence.

Had no issue booking Martinelli twice within 10 seconds without showing a card in between, however took a very different approach to Kovacic when he was trying to break legs one after another at the Emirates this year.......................

Awful awful referee who is another seems to think its more about him

There‘s not a ref in the Prem I’d put forward for CL and international matches. As for the Horlicks they’ve made of VAR, it’s frustrating enough watching from a warm armchair. 3-4 minutes in the stands must be excruciating.
Do you think people in different countries think differently about their refs? I suspect people in every country have the same conversation.

I actually think ours are pretty decent. They would be much helped if players were not trying to con them all the time.

I dare say you’re right but do they have it compounded by VAR and the multi camera coverage there is in the U.K.?

At times it's painful, Other times its hilarious.

VAR is definitely having a negative impact on referees performamces.

It looks to me like they're not enjoying it. Theres some really good referees but even they've been poor.

Howard Webb and his cronies need to sort it out because if it continues fans will jib it.

The issue before was players threw themselves to the ground after the slightest contact. The changes in how the referees dealt with that was to let play go on, under the assumption the player could easily have stayed on their feet, instead of trying to "buy" a free kick. I'm all for that, players should be able to stand their ground better.

Jonny Evans was not buying a free kick yesterday. It was a clear foul by Nunez.

There'll obviously be incidents in between both situations above, where subjectivity will always play a part. The frustrating thing for fans will be that individual referees will have different tolerance levels, but at the same time the same referee will have different tolerance levels at different moments in a game. I agree that the standard of refereeing is disappointing at times. It'll never meet perfection, but it would be nice to move closer to that, albeit we'll always be a million miles away.

I think the camera footage showing Nunez only had eyes on Evans tells all you need to know. It was a cynical foul. Must say I was surprised and disappointed. I’d thought better of Nunez.

The only comeback I'd say with this is that, having watched refereeing performances in European competitions, they have sometimes been farcical. I'm not sure if the refereeing standards are much better across the world compared to the PL? And in some cases, they could be much much worse.

But I definitely think VAR has contributed to making refereeing standards much worse than they were before VAR. Onfield referees rely on it too heavily to make the big decisions, and VAR will always struggle in a game in which some fans think 100% one way, and others 100% the other. So for so many decisions, there will always be that difficult decision as to what thresholds require attention and which do not. I think fans and pundits, even if they disagreed with the call, where more accepting when the onfield ref made that call based on what they saw in front of them. And I think we were fooled into thinking VAR would only be used if something happened behind their back, plus offsides. But VAR is getting involved in so many decisions that happened right in front of the onfield referees eye.

In Turkey, the media analyse (aka criticise) referees in a way to appeal to their more rabid football followers and even dox referees.

Oliver didn’t book Nunez for the foul, he was booked for kicking the ball away!

Its not a requirement of tackling now to be looking at the ball.
Just look at corners and free kicks for this , fouls are never given.

The Coufal one on the Wolves player is a perfect example.
He four arm smashed him in the head didn’t even try to play the ball. VAR looking at a potential red but nothing
That was a red all day.Imo.

Only because you have won a few games.
wait until VAR has robbed you of a few points and come back to us!😉😉😉

Whilst I agree it looked a red.. I do wonder what that player did.. because coufal went in hard on him a few times and then when kehrer came on he went through him

Reminded me of when Danny rose used to get taken out by everyone left right and centre

Dosnt matter if he did or didn’t do anything.
The ref and VAR should do their job!

Ha ha. Don't worry, we have been on the end of plenty so I know it isn't working perfectly.

It is nice not to be stressing about football this season, even after the 10 point deduction. Sean Dyche, manager of the year ;)
