I like this clampdown on players behaviour but how far into the season do we think it will be before it gets quietly forgotten about? Will be interesting to see what happens the first time a ref gets surrounded by screaming players. Will they have the balls to actually book them all?

Hope they clamp down on shirt pulling too.
I would like to see red cards for the cynical foul when players can’t be bothered trying to chase a player and just trip them up without even trying to make a play for the ball. Commentators say it is taking one for the team but to me is just lazy and should be dealt with more severely

Cole Palmer isn’t the brightest is he?

When Palmer was interviewed on ITV after the game and asked about his goal, the interviewer said “You’d had a sighter before that, hadn’t you?”

There followed a look of confusion on Palmer’s face before he replied “What does that mean?”

Bless.

Well I quite enjoyed that. Said to my lad this has penalties all over it. 20 secs later City scored.

Not really sure what to take out of that game.

Got to say that the bookings seemed a step in the right direction. I thought the booking for the City player kicking the ball out was stupid. Especially as the ball boy threw the ball straight back to the Arsenal player. But the commentators said “ players have been told not to kick the ball ( away) after the whistle has blown”.

Ave a feeling this week a lot of prem clubs are going to be bending players ears re new rulings.

How did rice play

Bang average but on a positive he has the same trophies after one game at Arsenal than his career at West ham. Thought Arsenal looked a solid unit.
Bit harsh there Tashy, I only seen the 2nd half but thought he did well.

I have never got the hype over Rice, he's always been a tidy player but ive never seen the quality the hype suggests.

watched a bit in the clubhouse and he did what Rice seems to do , tidy on the ball , solid in the tackle and clears up well - a nice solid player - but spending £100mil on him imo is about £50mil more than his worth. Bellingham who can do the lot in the middle and is imo a far far better player went for less. Mental the prices

Harvey Barnes notched a nice brace for the Toon on his home debut today.

For once its been a positive pre-season for Newcastle. Gordon looks like he has carried his U-21 form into pre-season. The Geordie Maradona (Elliot Anderson) has been dictating things in midfield and has bagged 4 goals. 17 year old Lewis Miley has played several matches and never looked out of place amongst more senior players. Almiron has weighed in with goals. Isak has been lively both creating and scoring. Sandro Tonali has already displayed excellent quality including a Pirlo-esque vision for a forward pass.

Best of all.....no new injuries.

For once we can look forward to the coming season. Almost certainly wont finish in the top four again with the added issues caused by European football...top 6 or 7 will be fine....might seem to outsiders to be going backwards, but in truth is where we really might have been expected, two years ago, to be, in the second full season of the new ownership. Trouble with overachieving (like we did last year) is that it sets unrealistic expectations amongst some fans.

To be honest I didn’t think anyone stood out. When It came to MOTM, it went to Cole Palmer who played ? 30 minutes.
