Disgraceful, haven't seen anything like that for a while.... The fans should have lifetime bans and arguably the club banned from European football for a period.

There is another angle with our players (benny, downes and paquata) grappling with the police and stewards to get into the fans to check on their families .. that was the biggest game of their careers (bar paquata, he Brazilian) they shouldn't need to worry about their families being safe in a stadium

Was funny to see harewood tho well up for it in the stands scaring them off .. enough to frighten anyone off that guy 🤣

One thing I noticed last night with the crowd was the differing reactions of the stands - the fans behind the goal in the first half went mental whenever the team scored as you would expect , but the crowds in the stands either side of the pitch appeared very reserved , polite clapping etc - it was almost like they were neutrals

I'm glad I wasnt the only one who noticed that. :)

Seem to remember last season there was controversy about fans coming on pitch, and it had to stop. Knew it would all be forgotten after a season, when the crunch time matches come around again.

Pretty spectacular from Wednesday. My mate is a season ticket holder, goes to every home game with his parents and 2 kids. However, he has to be at airport tomorrow at 3am, so they all decided not to travel to Sheffield for this game after getting battered last week.

What a game to miss

I agree with a ban on travelling supporters. But should WH fans also receive a ban for doing the same thing in the first leg?

If it's proven then yes

First I heard of that was someone on a west ham forum saying the BBC and other outlets leading with it but I can't find reference to it

(Certainly wasn't reported at the time last week) but then bt sport kept commentating on it last night like a boxing match almost so easy to highlight

The Alkmaar manager also made comment about it. I’ve seen it on the ‘Beeb site and somewhere else. I can’t find the second one, which had more detail. Bans and better crowd control. Just stop the fans from being able to get at each inside the ground. Outside the ground is a lot harder to police.

Found it , if true (no reason to doubt) ban em. At least security was better and didn't have to rely on players to break up a bunch of thugs trying to bring back the 70s

Looks like it’s the tail end of running battles

This morning a Dutch reporter was saying there was some fighting at the 1st leg and last night there was some “joining” of rival gangs - West Ham with Groningen fans to have some “meets” before the match and looks like it spilled over

It’s harking back to the dark old days of the hooligans and no doubt some clubs still have the bell ends within “firms” who want to continue it

Whilst that could be true id call BS because why would these "firms" be in with the friends and family section behind the dug out.

The away fans were all penned in the other side of the ground. These were just players families and former players etc.

So it doesn't ring true.
