I had a practice 9 hole round this evening and my early drives were suffering from the slice that I'm trying to cure.

I then committed the cardinal error in compensating for my slice by aiming left. Hey presto, a lovely straight drive into the trees and knee high grass and a lost ball.

This game drives me mad sometimes, but I still love it. :D

Would that not make the slice worse ?

If it means he stays out of the long grass amongst the trees, which one would you expect him to prefer?

Not sure whether it makes the slice worse, but guaranteeing it is no bad thing - in those circumstances!

I was struggling to hit any kind if fade a couple of months ago. My strong grip kept closing the face at impact.

Ive since worked out how to move it left to right by weakening my grip slightly. In fact i weaken the left hand significantly but move my right hand slightly more under the club. I cant turn the face over when i do this and get the required fade.

Golf, it seems, is a game of opposites. The more left you aim, the more right the ball goes. Hit the ball hard, it goes nowhere. Swing slow, it goes for miles. The game is a nightmare. Very frustrating and a constant source of disappointment with the odd glimmer of joy. Just enough to keep us playing. Personally, I can't wait for my next round.

+1 for this!

I think it was Nick Price who said you should never allow yourself to be punished for a straight shot. It stuck with me anyway, even on a day when my draw is hooky I'd never aim straight at trouble just in case. Hopefully that helps
