The all things EV chat thread

I have never been to a MOT station. Ford is doing them on service. Same for my bike where the local mechanic does it.

So when I buy my Enyak or Explorer or EQC (building myself a shopping list) next year I would hope that the people selling it to me do it as well.
If you have an MOT done anywhere the person who does it must be an authorised MOTer. It may just happen that the local mechanic is such a person. Pretty sure somewhere on the building there is a sign stating that they are an MOT station

I no longer have any old MOTs to check but I am pretty sure the individual MOTer's Authorisation number has to appear on the certificate.

Quite lot of smaller local garages don't do MOTs themselves but drive your car to a local MOT centre as part of the service. I don't know if they still exist, but a couple near us used to use a local authority place that did the public service fleet and charged the minimum MOT rate for private customers to ensure that they were always busy.

I don’t see it being applied to ICE vehicles, as they only have 5 more years of sales left so therefore demand will slowly diminish and also let’s be honest, they collect more via the pumps anyway.

I’m sure that deadline moved to 2035 due to infrastructure upgrades still behind planned timelines. Seems more infrastructure upgrades are more around data centres instead of renewables to power EV networks

The EU has just removed the 100% target for 2035 and is having a 90% fleet target now.

I assume that means that for example instead all all Ford cars there only have to bee 90% of Ford sold new being EVs.
They also didn't push the 100% further back, they dropped it.

What is the reasoning behind it?
VW Transporter T6 seems to cost me £1k everytime it goes into VW.
New Kia PV5 is looking very cheap to buy, and in the 3 or 4 yrs time when I want to retire it would still be sellable for a reasonable amount.
The snag is the T6 is a lovely drive, and fully loaded.....fully.

Vans are a fring EV case. Do you carry loads of stuff/weight a long way? Then it’s not great yet. Do you have a round trip and can charge at home most days then it is getting there. Just be aware that ranges are likely to be advertised empty, not carrying concrete a mixer and tools or bags of flour or any other things people with vans buy them for.

I don't suppose you can rent one for a week to see how it might work for you? As @larmen describes, how effective will the range be when fully loaded?

I've been reading lots of reviews. The higher output one says 284 miles range, and all the reviews say it's about correct ( and thats loaded).
I need to get a test drive as soon as one is available near to me, but as long as I can get a comfy driving position theres a strong c hance I may well give up on my T6.
Saving £2.60 per hr parking in town is also a usefull helper to that thinking. (For contest, before my fall I as doing £800-900 a month in parking, and I admit it's lately been £400-500, and thats at £7.70 per hr pay by phone parking)
It's payload isnt as good as my T6, but then I carry so much stuff I really don't need now it would force my hand there. The only real downer is it's a "little slower" than my T6, but hey I suppose thats no bad thing.
The T6 doesnt owe me anything, it's just getting a little expensive on a constant level now, something VW's never were. The biggest thing about the T6, is it's security. You dont see a T6.1 and earlier versions with their door punch through and into the locks, and they dont need extra plate protection around those locks. The new Transporter is a rebadged Transit, and already Ive seen them with doors punched and protection plates fitted. Not good.

That's a good loaded range imo, assuming it's accurate but it sounds as though it is. You wouldn't do more than that in a day, I'm assuming.

Ouch, those parking prices are painful 😣. Do I take it you pay less to park an EV?

Yes, £2.60 per hr less.......

This is why I always chuckle when people moan about having to pay £1 an hour to park
