Many thanks to Mike, Jezz and all at GM.
Many thanks to The Grove.

An absolutely great afternoon! I love places like the The Grove! Superb practice facilities - you get a pyramid of balls on the range - how good is that?
A free course planner, an engraved bag tag and free tees - 'andsome!

I had the great pleasure of striding round with SyR, Rob2 and JezzE. Some good golf played at times but, alas, not enough points taken from our respective powerplay holes.

A free burger and beer afterwards is always welcomed and yours truly struck alcoholic gold when the barperson incorrectly provided me with a pint of lager rather than a bottle of Peroni! The Lord shines on the righteous!

Once again, many thanks to GM - another excellent day out.

PS.....RickG, can you confirm, for the forum, how many DMDs you had on the go out on the course?

Having been pretty out of it when I posted last night I missed off a few thank yous!

Firstly, thanks to Murph for hosting myself, RichardC and Region3 in the morning round his track, West Herts, which at £21 for a guest's green fee is among some of the best value golf I've ever played. Lovely track in great nick with the coolest 8th hole I've ever played! Shame I played like an absolute knob and didn't really contribute to mine and Murph's 5&4 loss save for the par on the SI.1 7th after one of the sweetest 5 iron's I've ever hit, faded around the tree I was sitting behind to about 5 feet (after two awful shots to get within 160-170 yards!)

Secondly, thanks to Gary for hooking me up with a new bag and thirdly to Swinger, Neil Tappin and Steve (soon of this forum, hopefully) for an entertaining 9 holes in the afternoon. Great banter and Tappers gracefully left his putt at the last short to keep him out of the prizes :D

Anyone got any photos?

I had every intention of taking photos as it's a nice course to take photos of...didn't end up taking one!

I had a great time at the Grove and another great thank you to GM Monthly and Powerplay for making this possible. Thanks also to my playing partners, Steve, Mark and Daniel who made it very enjoyable.

Started brightly with a birdie (non power play) so standard 3 pointer, then a couple of bogeys before a massive 8 pointer birdie on the par 3. Ups and downs all the way ending with a minus 3 pointer at the end. Well who wouldnt go for the Power play on the last?

All in all a fun format which really encourages you to think more about where to put the ball when hitting to the green. Also the added pressure of holing out to a black flag makes those putts that bit more difficult.

What I wanted to ask but forgot to is , what would happen if you nominated a black flag but accidentally holed in the white flag?

I took my camera but only have these pics of Fundy's motocaddy. This was a bizarre and memorable moment on the 8th hole. Whilst Fundy played his shot the cart ran away from him straight across the fairway into a bunker in the distance and collapsed in a heap. It was funny but ended in tears because the caddy axle broke and had to be taken back to the clubhouse by buggy.

3rd broken cart this year? which is not a great advert for Motocaddy, sorry Fundy but you said that you didnt mind me posting this :D :D

I hope that you can get it fixed OK.

No worries about posting (you couldve stopped it at the time though!!! last time i look for someone elses ball up a hill hehe), wouldve been amusing if the trolley hadnt ended up in about 13 parts lol :)

The really annoying this is if I hadnt been feeling ill the prev few days Id have carried, that said I was by far alone in the trolley stakes!!!

Unlucky chap, hope it's repaired soon.

Are "bunker accidents" not covered under warranty? lol

Easily done on those fairways yesterday!!

Bit late in posting but all I can do is repeat the thanks to Mike, the GM Team, The team at the Grove who made us all feel very welcome. Just wish my golf could have done the course justice.

Highlight a slightly conservatively dressed Rick G (I'm sure him and Murph check wardrobes before they go out)getting a powerplay - gloating because he was the only one in our group to do so and then giving 3 back at the last - one shouldn't gloat.

Just to add my thanks to you guys for welcoming a newbie to the fold, thanks to Alex, mike and Sam for their company, thanks to Nikon for potentially costing me £200 for one of their distance measuring devices - Awesome.

Special thanks to the GM team for the day, the Grove was an experience to be remembered.

It was my 3rd try at Powerplay Golf and I'm still on the fence as to the longevity of the format but may try to get a few games going at my club next summer, will be bringing it up at committee next week for the 2012 fixtures.

Once again a massive thank you to all concerned.

Cheers Steve. Always nice to go home with something but if anyone had seen me putting on the course then they wouldn't have believed it!
