My AP2 7 iron is 34° so they are a bit, but the only thing that matters is that it flies like a 7 iron, providing it stops when it lands.
29.5 degrees is almost my 5 iron :0 my 7 iron is 36 degrees
what loft is the PW?
What you are saying is pretty much correct but the OP does say that he gained 12.5 yards so I'm afraid that kinda blows your theory out in this instance.
Hopefully I can help clarify a few bits as I was there yesterday.
Andy's ball speed went up 5mph, but the main benefit for him was shot-to-shot he went from a 70-80mph range with his irons to a 80-81mph range. It's always hard to tell whether that was just him becoming more relaxed and warmed up, or the club, but you can only look at the data and say what it says, and in this case you could see the distance consistency improved loads.
As mentioned, the XPG 7-iron is 29.5 (for comparison the M2 7-iron is 28.5 and 716 AP1 7-iron 31), but all the guys were hitting it higher on Flightscope than their weaker lofted 7-irons, which only backs up Yonex's reasoning that the stronger lofts are there to keep the launches in the most penetrating window possible when combined with the forgiving heads and graphite shafts.
