Just wanted to say thank you very much to Darren at Yonex UK and Jake at GM for this morning's fitting experience. It turns out that graphite is most definitely the way to go for me and no doubt many other club hackers like myself. Everyone to themselves but my message would be " don't mock it till you try it".

A fantastic, eye opening morning ....thanks again. Andy

Cool, would you like to tell us a little more about the fitting and what you ended up with please? What benefit did you gain steel v graphite? Is it a weight thing or a flex thing or a feel thing?

Dont think anyone is going to mock it.

He got graphite shafted irons and a new frilly frock

haha no-one would do that

Absolutely , the mock it comment was slightly tongue in cheek but Darren at Yonex said that there is a stigma out there that Yonex are trying to overcome in that graphite clubs are seen by the layman as Ladies or OAP clubs and this whole exercise was designed to change the general view on that.

In precis when comparing my current set, which i thought were suited to me, i now hit the ball on average 12.5 yards further, with 5mph more ball speed and if i remember correctly about 9 mph more swing speed. I've also gained a higher ball flat with longer carry and much tighter dispersion too. Fitting wise i'm pretty average but will be getting 1/2 inch longer shafts.

Can't wait to put them in play now , feeling really positive now going forward.

You better recheck your numbers, you can't gain 9mph club speed but only 5mph ball speed :mmm:

Would you like me to explain the offside rule to you? :D

I would LOVE 9mph club head speed!! Truly game changing!

On the Yonex trying to convert people and to be a little cynical.... Yonex know how to charge, their stiff is expensive so of course they want to convert people to the vastly more expensive graphite iron shafts.

Some of the big shaft manufactures have some really impressive iron graphite shafts but the heavier and stiffer you make them the more material you have to add so they can become boardy

It's a bit like listening to me yesterday, fantastic experience being fitted. I remember the old days when only posh and rich people got measured for there clubs.
Cannot understand why anyone now in this day and age would buy clubs without being fitted.
Re graphite shafts, Eh, so what. I have bought what some may see as the fastest ugliest Pings on the market, but they work for me. And work well.

put an update onto the "who got the Yonex fitting" post with more details. Very educational fitting process and insight into the technology that goes into the clubs as well.

Great time with Golf Monthly and Yonex!

well call me a girl if you want but the graphite shafts put twelve yards on my average length ,so i cant knock it.
the clubs are great ,nice sound off the face and feel really nice to swing ,i think the innovative weighted grips help with that.
as for the shafts i was i must admit a little sceptical that they would be right for my swing speed but how wrong can you be . my ball flight was higher ,my carry was longer and my dispersion was tighter than my irons
my stats said i needed half inch longer and two degrees upright ,grips would have extra wrapping underneath three to be exact.
Darren seems to instinctively know what would work and his knowledge im sure has very very few gaps in it when it comes to Yonex equipment .
great to meet up with Les and Andy, although Andy had to cut and run as he had a fair old trot back home.
Jake is a star in his own right making you feel at ease with the day ,and he was very unobtrusive ,even with all his camera work that he was doing ,taking either video or stills from a range of angles.
looking forward to seeing my face in the mag when it comes out . but a quick word of warning ,dont let the wife see it as she wont be the same again ,it will come in handy to keep the kids away from the fire if you put the picture on the mantlepiece.
many thanks to all involved in setting up the day ,it was very much appreciated .

Enlighten me please

I'm no expert but ball speed is created from a combination of swing speed and the compression of the ball at impact. If you have a poor strike such as off the toe or heel it will misplace the force of the swing, creating more side spin and less distance.

If you are swinging it faster but not hitting the 'sweet spot' as often then your ball speed may not improve as much as your club speed.

What you are saying is pretty much correct but the OP does say that he gained 12.5 yards so I'm afraid that kinda blows your theory out in this instance.

He could be spinning it less and launching it higher... The new club might be stronger or longer... or he may have his numbers mixed up..
