I wanted to pop some feedback on the forum re my reader fitting day yesterday at Golf Principles, Basingstoke. First things first, I would like to thank Jake and Tom (photographer) for making my session go incredibly smoothly.
It was a massive eye opener working with Jason the MD, and seeing the results on screen as each shaft changed to suit my shallow swing. I didn't realise how much of an effect it would have. I have only ever bought off the shelf, so to see the benefits of custom fitting, I was amazed. It will certainly change my thoughts when I change my clubs next. Jason made the fitting experience entirely seamless, offering valuable advice at every turn. I even forgot I was a 20 handicapper towards the end of the session. Thanks also to Craig, the Golf Pride grip fitter who again offered fantastic advice as to the best grips on offer, more importantly the best grip for my swing.
I had a fantastic experience and would recommend Golf principles to anyone looking to really dial in their game.

All I need to do now is find a decent deal on the Fujikura MCI 60 r shaft!!

Jason fitted my last set and it was a great experience. Despite me hitting some not so well as well as some flush he was able to sort out not just the optimum clubs but also the ones which were more for giving.

All in all highly recommended

Is he tied to any specific club brands that he promotes more or is it completely open ended?

He was very patient and genuinely looked interested in finding right fit. Just looks like he loves his job!

Hes just very very good at it. He knows the products so well and then learns quickly what your doing in your swing and what product will fit you.

Did you do every club in your bag?

Driver, 3 wood, hybrid, 6 iron, wedges and putter so pretty much.

Could anyone give a rough estimate if the cost of a fitting session with a set of irons? 5-gw.

Is it feasible to get fitted for shafts and have these put onto your current irons?

I know little to nothing about fittings etc.

thanks

Their website would give you a little clue

Feasible..Yes.Rarely actually worthwhile imo!

The cost of extracting and replacing shafts in a set of irons is such that it's almost always better to sell the current ones and purchase 'new' ones with the desired shaft!

That said, having that performed be a proper fitter should ensure that the result is a 'true set'!

I have used both methods!

When I was fitted for my JPX90 Tour iron Jason's team swapped out the shaft in my Mizuno H5 4 iron to match. Only took a few minutes and is great.

It drastically depends what head and shaft brands you go for. The site is not much help as I was fitted on a number of visits but never directly charged for fitting.

Yes you can have just shafts in your current irons.

Best advice, call Jason. He is a guy who is no nonsense and happy to talk and share.

Homer: yes Ping. Basically everything. In reality you don't really get to be brand aware beyond price bracket. The best thing for you becomes appealing. I would not chose my driver or hybrid on brand name.

So I was one of the lucky three that were picked. I took the first slot at 9am and as I was driving down went a little nervous and not 100% sure what to really expect from it. I was 'fitted' about three years ago for my current irons and have improved a lot since then.

The whole experience was amazing, Jason doesn't waste any time on anything and knows all you need to know. He started by explaining why my irons were completely wrong for me got me to try three different shafts the third being perfect! My issue is not distance but trying to get some consistency and this shaft was ideal. He doesn't seem to have any interest in the actual heads of clubs, for me it's not a big factor I hit a Srixon iron so if I was going to get new irons then I'd get Srixon. We moved onto the wedges but did not spend much time on this it may have been that I hit a 56 degree wedge when Jason wasn't really watching and it came off the roof and flew behind me almost hitting Jake. Not ideal but wedges weren't a big concern for me. I was more excited to move onto the woods. He fit me for the most amazing 3 wood and a decent driver. Both were far better than what I have in my current bag. Once again no interest in heads the shafts he fit me for didn't fit the club heads that I was interested in testing but the Big Bertha Alpha was the 3 wood head and the hybrid and driver were Cobra. To be honest I'd probably buy what I tested if I get around to purchasing new clubs.

Being fitted for a grip was a bit strange surely its just a bit of rubber. Craig swears to me that it will stop me from turning the club over and the putter grip will have my hands in exactly the same position each time. Amazing to get a set of free grips.

All in all great fun, would love to go there with lots of money and walk out with a completely new bag. Got fitted now going to see what I can pick up. If you're getting new clubs and aren't too far away I would suggest going to see Jason! Cheers to Jake for setting it all up.
