Tee Positions

Was out Sunday morning for the usual knock and noticed something odd about the tee positions.

We were playing off yellows (Winter Mins Tees), which do get pushed quite a bit forward from the Mens competition whites this time of year. But on quite a few holes they were pushed in front of the Red ladies tees.

I double checked the Par on the ladies tee boxes as most of the time if the Red's are longer they'll say the Par 4 is a Par 5 for them. But no.

It's the first time I noticed so it's been this way most of the winter I think.

Anyone else have this at their course ? Even for 1 hole with the same Par it would seem a strange thing to do.

As I presume they ain't qualifiers and more for casual golf why would it matter.

On our 12 th they are normally in front of the red tees for winter, same par.

our winter course is pretty much the same as the ladies course . only diff is the ladies card is par 75 where as the winter card for us in par 69. we don't have any comps over winter apart from some fun ones at Christmas

It may well have been done to afford the teeing ground a bit of protection just as the growing season starts to get underway. I'd be quite happy to play off a forward tee in a bounce game over the winter if it means nice grass coverage at the start of the season. Tees take a hammering during the season, so why not give them a fighting chance as the temp gets up and the grass starts to grow ?

All year round we have 3 red yellow tees infront of the Reds. They are only 10 yards in front. One of the holes is par 4 for the yellows and par 5 for the Reds. The other 2 are par 4 for reds and yellows. I asked someone about it and the said it was to keep the overall round yardage up for the reds as 2 holes have the red tees a long way infront of the yellows due to long carries over steep hills/valleys.

Likewise for us at Shrivenham, a couple yellows in front of reds, compensated by different stroke indexes. Generally only a few yards though on the 6th it is about 30 yards+.
