I received an email from my pro with details of his latest offers and included in it was a Taylormade SLDR driver 10.5 degree with a regular shaft reduced to £110. As I was offshore I got Mrs Colch to phone up with a deposit and picked it up yesterday having never even seen it let alone tried hitting it.

Played today with two mates and went up to the range first to try it out and fiddle with the settings. My standard drive is a big slice so started with it set to max draw setting. Ended up settling for around 4 marks towards neutral of the max and then took it out on the course.

The results were absolutely amazing. Not massively long by forum standards, but was regularly hitting it around 250ish yards but measured my two best drives on GPS as 272 and 294 yards. And the best thing is that it went straight. Don't think I've ever had a round when I've hit so many fairways off the tee. Only missed two fairways with it all round.

The rest of my game was absolute dog toffee and was 3 over handicap but the new driver is definitely here to stay.

I have been think about the SLDR... playing the R1 curently but only hear good stuff about the SLDR

to balance it a little, yes its long as are most new drivers, i found it as unforgiving as the R1 paddy. Hearing great stuff about the Aeroburner driver, (i GAME the mini)

Maybe you should have tried hitting it out of the middle of the club :ears:

It replaced a Ping i20 in my bag so not a massively out of date driver and was surprised by how much further it went. A lot of this is almost certainly down to hitting it straight (and even on occasion with a slight draw) rather than my usual huge slice.

noo shhhussh.... i'm not listening.

I've recently been giving one of these a bash and pretty impressed.

Forgiveness is relative, I've been using a G25 but a bad swing still results in a bad shot. Pleasantly surprised how the sldr is on bad swings, my bad shots actually seem better with that than the G25......

By game, he means lets it collect dust in his garage/boot.

Is the correct answer!

Summer hols now though Sam, Brownies and stage school have stopped, so my weekday evenings have freed up if you fancy coming over after work soon,

I am gonna miss brownies though, i can show you my badges!

Ive an SLDR and it is far more forgiving than my last couple of drivers..... but i had a crack with an R15 with a reg shaft in a couple of weeks ago and that was far more forgiving and went further on a very measured swing... the lighter speeder shaft i didn't like and found little difference between the reg and stiff.

I hear alot of people moaning about how unforgiving the sldr is. I just don't see it. I have the 430 version and find it very forgiving. Especially out the toe

Can do 4th or 25th. Lets aim for the 4th, but keep an eye on the weather? with 25th as a backup?

Will take it to twitter.....

SLDR away people! Sorry!

I've got an SLDR and I don't find it any more or less unforgiving than anything else I've tried, I've got a shortened Black Tie shaft on it and I'm trialing a longer Red Tie shaft currently, I did record better stats though when I tested a load of drivers a few months back with the Callaway Big Bertha Alpha, Titleist 915 & R15 leading the way, the Aeroburner was just too light, like a feather in the hand, will only suit a small minority of people IMO.

I've had an sldr for quite some time now and won't swap it for anything.

I had a ping g20 today (which I've heard is forgiving) and I couldn't stop slicing it. I pretty much cannot slice my sldr for love nor money.

Maybe a 430 thing!

The mini is hugely forgiving, especially off the toe, but the 460 isn't in the same league.

Mind you there must be different versions because I've only got 2 settings of draw (from neutral) on mine 😀

I picked one one up off evilBay a couple of months ago after toying with a few drivers.

Bought this one straight away as it had the black tie shaft and it's made a hell of a lot of difference to me. Appreciate the shaft is a main contributor in it but in terms of forgiveness, I actually feel I get away with a lot with it!

It'll be staying in the bag for a while to come I think.

(And Jocko....pack it in you nutter!!!)

I've been horrific off the tee all year with a driver and then I got fitted and found the ridiculous beast that is R15 and it's game changing. I've got the 14 degree 460cc and it is carrying further than any driver i've had before. Taylor Made seem to be killing it at the minute with their woods. The Aeroburner is quality as well.

One question for the SLDR owners out there. I've worked out how to move the slider bit on the bottom of the club from draw to fade and back again but when I tried to alter the loft I couldn't work out how to change it. I undid the screw bit on the bottom of the club but then couldn't work out how to adjust the loft. What bit of the club do I need to twist/move to reduce the loft. I know this might seem crazy as the club is working as it is but I just want to fiddle to see if I can make it better. Any help gratefully received.

The whole head moves, you'll see markings on the hosel, just move the head round to the desired choice.

I've got an taylormade RBZ but saw an SLDR on ebay for 80 quid buy it now from a seller down the road from me so bought it.

Have to say i'm impressed with it. Finding a bit more distance, only about 10-15 yards but mainly on carry and noticed no real difference in forgiveness compared to my RBZ.

Got it set in neutral at the moment and my driving had been the best its ever been until this week where I'm push slicing everything massively and striking with an open face, going to the range tonight to have a mess about with the settings on it but i'm a bit dubious how a little tiny weight will affect anything much but we shall see haha!
