I don't like them. Shorter than most other premium balls on the market
Your not hitting it hard enough Homer. You'll maybe need another couple of lessons, to get the clubhead speed for those little doozies!

I bought some to try. Still not sure if I prefer them to anything else but they do feel different to me.

Probably not the right word to use, but the best way I can describe it is that they feel 'lighter' off the clubface.

I know they can't be, that's just how it feels to me.

Not just me. HTL who could definitely get the club head moving and get the ball out there said the same thing. I gave one to one of my mates who plays off 8 and is a very strong hitter (quick but powerful) and he moaned too.

As for my lessons, I'm in a happy place with where we are going and would rather not have to worry about hitting harder to get the ball to work for me. Funny how this five layer philosophy has yet to be copied. Maybe it doesn't work for the majority of joe average golfers.

Maybe it doesn't work for the majority of joe average golfers

You could say that about 99% of all new gear, but they say that golf is 90% in the head.

Up to a point I'd agree but a lot of golfers can get by with the shiny new clubs they by as by and large the swing does work to some degree or another. What I'm not sure about is how a normal club golfer is actually suppose to get the requisite clubhead speed to really compress the Penta to its full potential and therefore gain maxmimum advantage. I thought it seemed gimmicky at the time and the fact that no-one else has rushed to follow suit would tend to back that initial thought. Even I can get some benefit from 3 and 4 piece balls but frankly in my case the Penta is a layer too far

It's really just horse's for courses. I have never really got on with ProV1's but the x's are okay. Penta flight is so much better for me. Srixon Z Star not my cup of tea, but usable as a winter ball. Bridgestone & Nike never tried.

What I am really saying is you must try all different balls until you find the one that works best for you and stick with it (At least until they bring out a new version). It may not be the longest, but it has to be the one you score best with. It may not even be a premium ball.

The thing that bugged me about all the advertising with the Penta is that the layers are all designed to react differently to different clubs, yet they say that every golfer can benefit from it.

That has to be garbage bearing in mind that some club golfers will be swinging their driver (which wants less spin and boring trajectory) at the same speed that others are swinging with a 7 iron (which wants more spin to stop on the green).

No ball can be all things to all golfers.

Bridgestone's are my favourite from all the ProV equivalents I've tried, and you can pick the right ball for your swing speed from their website.

Still waiting to find one so I can try it!
Not going to shell out for a ball I havn't tried.
But then it's TaylorMade and I've never played well with anything Taylormade.......

I wish I was of the standard to be able to judge a ball as being better than one or another... I can tell that a ProV1 is better than a Topflite or a Pinnacle but that's about it.

Same as that. I avoid "hard" balls like the plague. I don't mind knobbing one off the tee with a rock, but when it comes to putting and chipping they leave me cold.
I use a wide variety of balls, Srixon, Titleist, Wilson and as long as the box says "soft feel" or "softer" somewhere on it and they don't "clunk" when I tap one up and down on my putter I am happy to try to smack it around the gaff.

I don't like them. Shorter than most other premium balls on the market and felt too soft and pudding like on the chips and putts. I prefer the TP red or black

As much as I love to ridicule Homer at any given opportunity I have to agree that the TP's, namely the reds, are the best ball from Taylor Made. Prettymuch in between a Pro V1 and a V1x but far cheaper (clubhouse golf) and are much better in the wind as they launch lower whilst still spinning plenty. The TP black feels like a Top Flite XL to me though! Actually could be made from wood the way it feels off the face!

I was browsing at the Golf Depot the other day and thought I'd treat myself to a dozen nice new balls. I considered the Pentas or the ProV1's as they were both the same price (£25). Went for the ProV1's this time, but might try the Pentas next time.
