Its happening again...... That itchy feeling you get when you look at new clubs......My thoughts are that if youve hit more than at least a dozen exceptional shots over any given period with every club in your bag then you shouldn't change them......

It facinates me when I see really good players playing with battered blades or clubs that have seen better days.... Wedges with worn grooves.... Woods with battle scars.......
I always recite this to myself when a seed gets planted about changing gear... Why the hell am I wanting to change when I'm hitting my own well.... I trust them.... Ok they bite back at times but that's me not the clubs..... Everytime I set foot inside the local shop I either pull a Titleist AP1 712 or a Mizuno mp club......

AP1's are nice clubs, ...what shaft are you going to put in them? :whoo: (I'm thinking s300's.....??)

I have S300 in my FG's at the moment...... They seem to suit me for some reason.... Every time someone picks up one of my irons their first word is.... Man their heavy aren't they.... Dont really notice it myself....

The AP1's have R 300's...... Iv hit that shaft before also.... Didnt see a huge difference between them and what I use....

Apparently though those 712 AP1's are supposed to have high levels of forgiveness...

Don't stroke my already over-rated ego!!

The s300's are lower launch.. and you (appear to) hit quite hard with a fairly high trajectory. I just thought s300's would suit, especially if you were switching to the slightly higher launch of the AP1's

(what the hell do I know about clubs, they're just sticks to me!!!)

AP1's are more forgiving, a bit chunky, but if you like the look of them then you'd better get your Euro's out!!! :D

That's not really talking you out of it, is it?

Post of the month?

@Kid2

Weigh up what you will gain - a little bit of forgiveness, something shiney to look at over Winter
And what you will lose - some feel, some workability and a few hundred Euros.

Then make the usual non-common-sense decision that golf generates and buy something you don't really need!

AP1s are ok, but I'd be looking straight passed them to the forged options from titleist. Also, there's no point spending all that money and not taking advantage of a fitting. This may even be included in the cost of the sale. Isn't there the national fitting centre within a drive? Even if it costs you an extra £30(conversion lazy) you can get some decent grips put on instead of the standard to get your money's worth. Mine have all red VDRs and they look sweet. Sell off all your unused clubs and you'll find you've hardly spent anything.
P.s, the 714s are out and would be worth waiting for.

I think every golfer gets those vibes from time to time Kid ....... Except Snelly :ears:

It'll take something special to get the MP63's out of my bag, so I sympathize with you and your plight.

That said. Never say never! :smirk:

Not really no.

Little bit of chalk and cheese going on pulling an AP1 against a MP iron is it not?
AP1 is, as JO said, a chunky lump whereas I don't recall seeing any MP irons in that size.
If you want more forgiveness then AP1, if you want to stick with the same profile but just get new irons then AP2 or MP.

Do you REALLY want talked out of it though? I seem to recall another very similar thread from you recently, seems the seed has already been sown.

My coach has had the same clubs for years. He thinks anyone who changes clubs more than every seven or eight years is batty. It's all about consistency, and permanently changing stuff is never going to give consistent results.

Exactly the reason why I avoid looking at Titleist MBs. Whenever I see them in GM I have a moments yearning before quickly turning the page. If I could afford it, I'd buy them just to see if I could get on with them but keep my AP2s as backup. As it is, I just avoid contact with them :D

Go for t Kid2 if you can afford it, it will not make one iota of a difference to your game though, all in the head once you get generally the right club in your hand.

A player of your quality owes it to himself to be playing Mizuno MP 64....

Based upon the average type of thread the Forum is the last place where you could expect to be talked out of it.

So, on that basis, go for it!! You know you want to!
