Friday night... Think it'll be a Chinese for us tonight - might try something new!

Lot of Indian fans on here, big fan of an Indian but always preferred them eating out to at home!

You being a fellow Midlander, I hope you've tried an Indian mixed grill in a desi pub? Literally on every corner by me.

OHHH YESSSS

Pub about 5 mins from me was taken over a few years back by an Indian family, perfection!

Been meaning to try and do one before a Villa game one day too!

Never understood how a meal of processed sugary rubbish can be considered treat.

But each to their own
I tried a Big Mac in Luton in 1985. I felt I had to do it merely so that I could have an opinion.
It was pretty much how I suspected - odd combination of sweet and meat. Did not have any fries - can not understand why people would actually pay money for those.
The gherkin was the only interesting thing with a reasonable flavour. Never felt the need to try it again.
I've also had a single KFC experience. That was eat-in however. In Athens in 1982.
Prior to that I will admit to having had the very occasional kebab in Newcastle when inebriated. I do like shredded red cabbage and pitta bread.

Never had an Indian takeaway in my life, come to that I have only eaten one curry and I didn't enjoy it. Fortunately my wife is the same. Chinese or fish and chips are my preferred choice although I do get persuaded to sample the delights of MaccyD's when out with the grandkids.

I didn't discover curry until my 20s but then I was hooked

My freezer is full of batch cooked ones ready to unfreeze for work

We are having maccas with the kids ATM, don't mind with them just for ease

Filled a hole . Friday is busy aswell doing club drop off and pick up so saves cooking

Surely you have an air fryer/slow cooker hooked up to a smart plug to start cooking as you are on the way home? With all the gadgets you have, this is simple tech 😄

Unfortunately you can't start the air fryer remotely

Put me off getting a smart kettle as you had to fill it up.. rubbish

However I do have a keep boiled kettle that keeps it boiled for 30 mins and can warm to different temps which is great for drinkable hot chocolate for the girls

Dining out is expensive in America with 20% tips over already high prices being the norm;

but take out, as we call it, can be, in the case of fast food at least,

cheaper than eating t home.

Is this the case in the UK?
No. Eating in, cooking at home, is always the cheaper option in the UK.

In my limited experience of visiting the US, supermarkets and so food, is cheaper here than with you. Equally, I suspect our energy costs are higher and so the costs for restaurants and takeaways are higher. As I say though, my experience is limited so that may not be the case all over.

Wagamamas travels well as delivery, so we have it quite often.
Nando’s on the other hand is great there but delivery is always disappointing. Cartboard box v. Plastic tubs.

I do like the occasional German Doner Kebab as a delivery, but last time the size had shrunk a lot.

Pizza is also good, but Papa Johns, not Domino’s. Weirdly, PJ doesn’t directly deliver to hours, but it is available via Deliveroo. But that seems to limit the choices.

It seems like lots of people here stay away from chains. I like to know what I get

Was a Chinese for us on Saturday night;

Pork yuk sung
Chicken chow mein
Chilli fried chicken
Curry sauce

The kids picked the chicken out of the chow mein and that was it. We'll be sending them to bed after chicken dippers next time and then order.

Speaking of take away, I just walked home with the kids and a leaflet dropper avoided ours as we have "no junk please" but then I spied a Thai food menu.. intercepted her sharpish

Well this was a massive let down

Noticed they were on deliveroo, someone sent me a voucher for something. Brilliant

We planned to have it tonight

Go to order "not accepting orders"

So called up .. delivery please "sorry we don't offer that ATM you have to use Uber eats or just eat" even tho deliveroo on their menu

Ok mate we will take our money elsewhere

Delierooing a turtle bay , unfortunately tho the Mrs doesn't take mucking about with food well. She was like I'll just have toast

Don't send me a take out menu if you can't provide the goods!

My local Indian restaurant makes a 'staff curry', which is a blend of all the spare bits during an evening service, all tossed into a big bowl, then at the end of shift, the staff share it (after the chefs have added their own razzmatazz). It is inevitably spicy and usually the meat is on the bone, which is how they like it. Usually a staff rice is prepared too.

It's only on Fridays and Saturdays, but the owner puts two portions aside for me and I collect on my way past and have it during the week. No charge, as I am a regular at the venue, but I do love a traditional curry and it's kind of habit now.

As for delivery, with the upsurge in third party drivers void of any personality or hygene, I don't bother and on our non dinner at home nights, we go out to eat.

That sounds beautiful!! Love a curry..my favourite place round here we found out 4 years after living here that they delivered to our house! We always assumed we were too far. Whenever they deliver they have a chat on how they haven't seen us at the restaurant for ages. Unfortunately the kids don't allow us out much. The painful twin already been up twice since she went to bed this evening!

Tonight wasn't a total failure. We love turtle bay .. never got take away .. so I ordered a sharing thing that was jerk chicken breast, rice, curry goat , Mac and cheese and corn on the cob

Was lovely. Mrs couldn't handle the chicken so I got extra

Worth it in the end , shame I did fancy Thai however I do love Caribbean food
