Swing Speed - Interim video

Is it a boomerang drive then tim,one that comes back to you after youve hit it,lol.I think in all honesty its got the potential.Im no expert but to me it looks quite good, nice full turn and nice and level at the top of the swing. If your after accuracy then hitting it long doesnt always equate to fairways as you know, but all in all not bad,imo

Nice. Would like to see your left foot flared open a little (20-30°) to allow your hips to clear faster (and achieve even more clubhead speed!)

in slow mo your left leg moves like Elvis, uuuhhhh :D ask bob wot he thinks

Thanks. I call that my "Jack Nicklaus move"!¬To be honest, I find it incredibly difficult to keep the legs quiet, despite weeks of training them to do so. Perhaps I should just accept that as a "feature".

Top tip, thanks. I've had that mentioned to me before, but keep forgetting.

Well done, I hit one 286yds on Tuesday, slightly wind assisted, but I haven't been trying to hit it further, it just got warmer and firmer on the course

I'm not expert enough to comment on your swing but I would like to know if you are trying to drive it 300 in total or carry it 300?

295 wind assisted? Why d'you need a driver? 3 iron with that wind surely? Get some lag in your swing, Tim, and stop hitting it like a girl. You've none at all, man.

Hi, Tim. My last post was about lifting my left heel on the backswing although mine only comes up about an inch. I've just watched your swing on YouTube and your heel lift is very pronounced. Straight after I looked at Bubba Watson's swing. Might be worth comparing his leg action to yours. Looks quite similar and as Bubba hits the ball miles this should be of interest to you as we know you seem quite fond of a bit of extra yardage. :)

Yes, that Bubba Watson swing on you tube is truly amazing - showing just how much leverage he gets. I'm no expert on swings, but there seems to be similarity between Bubba and Jack Nicklaus - both have a huge hip turn which drags the knees across the body. From the top Bubba seems to yank his left arm down as fiercely as possible ending with the classic "C" shape with the hips well forward and rotated. Huge energy.

I think distance is a red herring because it is affected by so many external factors. I think a better measure is swing speed. I don't know what speed that swing was - probably 105mph. My goal is to reach 115mph as a "controllable" average. My absolute max so far is 123mph.

swing speed is nothing ,ball speed, spin rate and carry distance mine was 146 mph, 2700 rpm if i remember 230 carry which gave 260 total, swing speed is 102 mph ,you use a factor of 1.43. not shabby but nothing great on here i suppose.

Swing speed means nothing without a good contact though. If your looking for the main key it's ball speed. Which gives you... distance.

Ball speed and overall distance is affected by: club head, ball type, ball temperature, ambient temperature, shaft flex characteristics, contact, spin rate, etc. The common denominator in all that is club head speed.

I intend to have a comprehensive driver fitting to maximise distance once I've achieved the swing speed target.

On trackman I've had a smash factor of 1.52 which is quite impressive seeing as the max is 1.50

Once you've got a decent swing speed you need to be looking at the other factors that might be holding back your distance eg: spin rate. My Titleist used to get 4,200rpm and when I changed to callaway it dropped to 2,300 giving me an extra 15yds carry straight away. That said i don't know what the spin rate of my i15 actually is now.... basically 'cos I just don't care any more.. I hit the ball far enough compared to most and will NEVER end up on tour :)

Tim, how consistent is your ball striking ie if you hit 50 on the range how many (or few!) would be a complete mis-hit? Back to YouTube, Phil Mickelson is worth a look and a good right hand example is Paul Casey.

Yeah I think JustOne is right, because your hip turn starts really well and then just stops halfway down. If you look at Bubba, his beltbuckle is pretty much facing the target, whereas yours is only just ahead of the ball. Bubba is an extreme example tbh as no one clears their hips more than him, hence his power, but you still need to clear them a lot better.

Overall a lot of good points to your swing though, very nice.

Distance is a red herring now is it - you do like to contradict yourself don't you? What's the point increasing your swing speed if you see distance as a red herring.

You started on here by telling us driving it 300+ yds is the quickest way to scratch, so I'd like to know if you're looking for total distance or carry?
