Was playing a club Stableford today and one of my playing partners was mid-swing on the second tee, when a bee flew into his shirt - the resulting topped shot, whilst hilarious, seemed a little unfair. We weren’t sure that there was anything that could be done under the rules to rectify the situation, so he just played his second as it lay and carried on from there. I had a quick look on the rules app at the time but didn’t find anything. Were we correct?

Yes. There is nothing in the Rules that provides any other outcome to this situation.

I think he has to delibaretly miss like tiger in the masters. ( bird)
But good luck explaining that to your marker! “ I missed on purpose because a bee flew at me”

Didn't he manage to stop at the top of his swing? (remarkably)

If he had swung and missed it counted whatever the distraction.

The player is said to have topped his ball. I think there is a clue in there somewhere. ;)
You might want to read through this again .
I was talking about Tiger Woods the clue is I said “Tiger” in answer to Mikejohnchapman.
He said “ he stopped at the top “ but he didn’t.:)

Haha, in this case he definitely swung, topped the ball, kind of fell to the floor in a comical fashion and if you imagine how you might draw a cartoon character chasing a bee from the inside of the back of his shirt, he did exactly that :ROFLMAO:

Tiger Woods, not sure about :). I'm sure I saw a pro golfer once abort during the swing by kind of pushing his hands away so that the club swerved far outside the ball. I might be making that up/misremembering though

That’s exactly what woods did.
He started the downswing but pulled it inside the line and more or less stopped just past the ball.
Like you would have a sawn off finish in a stinger low shot.
But a deliberate miss is not a stroke at the ball.

I played with a guy last year who farted in his own downswing, thus topping the ball. No mulligan for him, but would be amusing if there was an interpretation to cover such an eventuality.

No relief if he carries on with his swing.
Tell him to buzz off.
