why do we always think the grass is greener ? ?
i have a ping g2 centre shafted G2 putter which feels great and never fell out of love with it in the 3 years since i bought it

BUT

why do i always see a shiney new flat stick and decide to impulse buy it !!!! :D

I use to have a load of redundant putters knocking about. I've swapped to my odyssey No 9 and that is the one. Ideal for the quicker greens at theis time of year and suits my stroke perfectly. Happy camper and I'm making loads of putts

I agree with HomerJSimpson! Been using a "Heavy Putter" which worked really well but found that I was also having problems on the fast greens at present. Tried the Odyssey number 9 and it has been a revelation - certainly helped in last Sundays Mixed Match with 5 single putts! (Unknown for me)

It is built into the nature of all of us to see something new and shiny and want it, there is nothing wrong with wanting new gear it helps to revitalize our interest in golf and makes us want to try and play better with our new stuff. I say, if you want something new then get something new after all it's your money you are spending and a bit of retail therapy works wonders.

thing is i think the prices on putters is just rediculous. i was at the range a few weeks ago and see putters up to £200.

Ive recently swapped to a taylormade rossa INZA AGSI as i fine with blade style putters im inconsistant with length. As long as my stroke is on for the day im consistant with this as i find its heavy weight helps loads.

I think the worst thing is you can have a day where you struggle with reading greens, the pace of them, the first thing that gets blamed is the putter.

When I was last in Hong Kong, there was a Scotty there that was over £3k.

Did I buy it, no. But I don't think the price was ridiculous, just because I wouldn't buy it. I just accept that there is stuff out there (and not just golf stuff either) that is out of my price range.

Why do you think the price of putters should be capped?

I've just bought a new putter... I struggled with lining up my putts so it wasn't an impulse buy as such. When i saw i could get one of these for £30 though, i jumped at it. I went for the 003 model.

I'm liking it very much. The feel isn't quite as nice as my odyssey, but it's so much easier to line up and i've getting used to the weight. I think we may be friends for a long time :) Only thing i don't like about it is the grip feels slimey when it gets wet. That is an easy fix though.

Anyway, back to the topic. I think it's ok to swap putters whenever you like depending on how you feel on any given day. Takes a while to get used to a certain club though so i'd say that swapping too often could maybe be detrimental to your game!

I think we all have a type of club that just grabs our eye and we impulse buy irrespective of how happy we are with whatever it is in our bags. For me it is fairway woods/hybrids. Have a gap in my bag that I have never found the ideal club for so am always going for impulse buys or bargains to fill gap.

I am really happy with my putter but if I see a Taylormade Ghost in the flesh and like it as much as I like the pictures then the wallet will be out again.

About three years ago I bought an old original Ping Karsten Anser on eBay. Got it re-gripped and it will remain with me for ever.
I might have it in my coffin. :p :p :p

from a novice point of view the amout of stress putters are put under is next to nothing, i can remember when i used to caddy for an old boy in 94 (i was at school still before the wise cracks start) he would always try the newest this, the newest that.. but he's putter would never change. I caddied for him for 4 years, he must have had around 5 sets of irons in this time, around 4 / 5 different sets of woods, driving irons, chippers, wedges, but never changed he's putter.

My point is with drivers have such exotic metals and materials used to make them, why should a driver be the same price as a putter.

In saying tht the putter makes the difference so its all about what you can justify. Me personally if i fell in love with a £200 putter i would ebay surf until my mouse died but i could never pay that for a putter, hell i max out at £150 on a driver but normally buy a previous years model.

Personally I've never been a real lover of the really expensive putters like Camerons until I tried this

I was so close to getting it but I couldn't justify the price and so opted for this version

I'm putting so much better and feel there is less pressure on my stroke as this type of putter will let me come inside the line a touch, more so than my blade which performed better back and through. 3-8 feet is becoming a speciality and its no coincidence that I'm suddenly making birdies again.
