Only a week to go until this event. Thanks to lots of useful tips from members on here I visited the us open qualifying at walton heath and thought it was excellent. Hence I'm keen to go to this and have talked a couple of mates into joining me.

The thing is, there doesn't seem to be any info about entrance fees, car parking (I know it's next to the station, but if a few of us go the car is much cheaper), draw times, catering, etc etc etc.

Does anyone have any info to share, even if based on the last couple of years at the same venue ?

The event is free to get in and it's basically park wherever you can. Last year I parked in the station carpark and walked up (10 mins). Good day out, I followed Monty and there were only a handful of people, you can get right up close. There will be a couple of food stalls there if you need food but we took our own.

Other places to park are Sunningdale Ladies GC on Cross Rd, or you can risk a ticket by parking in Ridgemount Rd. In the past, I have left my car in Ridgemount Rd for the whole day during the Sunningdale foursomes without getting a ticket.

If I left my car around Sunningdale all day it would get towed. I imagine your Roller fits in quite nicely though Anthony.:D

Walton Heath was a great day, and I am sure Open qualifying at Sunningdale will be just as good. Shame I am away but anyone in the area should definitely get down/up there.

Do the ladies GC offer some sort of paid parking facility in conjunction with the event? I'd hate to just sneak in and lob the vw in a members slot and have middle aged women hassling me on my return. Not sure I want to risk the ticket as some attendant with an entrepreneureal spirit might work out that this is a way to get an entire week's bonus in one afternoon...

Although I'm looking forward to seeing the players in action, I have to admit that I'm equally looking forward to walking round such an iconic layout without the trauma of hitting lots of zstars into trees and gorse. Lets hope the weather sets up well for it.

As long as my job tomorrow goes well I think I'm going to pop along here for an hour or two between work and a 330 tee off.

Can anyone recommend a good spot to watch a few groups go by that's not too far from the entrance please?

If you can park on Ridgemount Road, opposite end of the road to the Station/Waitrose/A30, then enter the course throught the white gate. The road crosses the 2nd on the Old course with the 13th green/14th tee just across the 2nd fairway.

just back from this with a couple of mates.

Great day out. m25 was working in both directions. Parked for free in sunningdale ladies (signposted along the a30 from within a mile or so). I'd never been to sunningdale, so it was a real pleasure to walk most of both courses. Have to say, if I could only play one it would be the old.

It wasn't particularly crowded, even the playoff at the end only had a couple of hundred following at most, so you could pretty much chose your golfer(s) and follow them as much as you wanted.

Compared to the us open walton heath qualifier, I enjoyed the courses at sunningdale more (the m25 drove me up the wall at WH), but being able to walk along the fairways at WH was a huge plus compared to sunningdale where we were kept behind the roipes. Not really necessary given that the crowds were certainly no larger and probably smaller.

I'd certainly recommend either as a golfing day out. foc parking and entry and lots of biggish names playing. Nothing quite like hearing the strike of a well hit golf ball. Will probably pop out a disc trying to emulate them at the weekend.

Followed Cambo and McGinley around The New - afternoon round - with a couple of excursions to other groups and to see the magnificent view from the 10th of The Old.

Noise from M3 can be heard on a few holes. I've always suggested the M25 noise at WH be considered waves crashing on beaches as with links courses!

Didn't realise some of the tees they used actually existed! 5 is miles back from the others and 15 is a fair old way from the path back to their 15th as well.

Good to see Quiros get through. Fleetwood mus be gutted missing the playoff by missing a putt of less than 3 feet on the last - having been -2 after 33 holes!

I popped over for a couple of hours in the afternoon. Quite a low key event. Great to see the Claret Jug (or a replica) on display by the practice putting green. Saw quite a few good shots and a few bad ones. Not many beat par over the 2 rounds.

Both courses looking stunning but interested that there seems to be a lot of tree clearing on the New.

Bumped into TXL who was scoring and had a liitle chat. Told me he gets a choice of playing the Old or New today as reward for his efforts. Jealous? You bet. :) Have a good day which ever you choose.

Some of the guys got to play the New today, I however, enjoyed a day of driving to Holyhead, getting the ferry to Dublin and then negotiating rush hour traffic :) I will play one of the courses at a later date, the voucher I was given was for the New and is valid for 1 year - I am sure we will be able to negotiate a round on the Old if we prefer.

I will be "working" at the Irish Open this week. For any forummer that is in the area and would like a complimentary one day pass (I believe I will have 2 spare one day tickets), please send me a pm so we can sort out the best way of getting them/it to you. :)
