Summer Comps

I find it strange that back in April / May, when the course was not in great nick (bumpy slow greens, lush wet rough, etc) there were comps almost every weekend, but now the course is in it's prime condition, there are no comps for 5 weeks.

It doesn't make any sense to me. Now it is in superb condition, I want to have an opportunity to get cut, but there is nothing on. Next medal isn't until the 17 August, and the last one was 6 July. That's 5 weeks out of the golfing season with no comps.

Any one else find this?

I guess they planned the comps early so as to leave leeway should they be forced to reschedule due to weather.

of course you could introduce a new trophy for a comp to be played over 5 successive weekends?

just had a cynical thought - the club officials don't take their holidays over these 5 weeks by any chance?

My guess is that it would have something to do with holidays, but now we input our scores ourselves, this shouldn't affect anything.

We have the same issue at our club. There was up to 3 comps a week at the beginning of the year but now that I have the 'bug' for entering comps there is maybe 2 a month.

Now I don't know If anyone else had this experience, but in Summer you'd be falling over yourself for comps, all of which counted for your handicap, but come the off season, then everything dried up unless you were a senior, or wantedm to enter the Winter league. But everything in the winter league didn't count for handicap.

Really frustrating when you play your best golf September onwards, like myself.

Probably another reasonwhy I left the club I wsa with last year & am doing what I am this.

Oh & another thing, how many others are like myself & work odd shifts like myself 4 on 4 off, where 4 days of the week I could go golfing, which as often as not means midweek as the ew weekend I do get off I understandably want to use for being with the missus or visiting family, so I'm hardly going to enter every weekend golf comp. Try looking for weekday comps unless you are a senior... No hope. One or two a month if you are lucky. grrrr!

There are 2 monthly comps on Tuesdays, but I can't play on a tuesday until after 5.30, when I can't get 18 in, because every one else playing is pacing the field for 13 holes only.

Weekend comps, nothing til mid August.

All winter comps are non qualifying, as we change to a winter card.

at my club we have a comp saturday and sunday every week throughout the year, they normally alternate these between stableford and medal with the odd different comp thrown in, like we have a few four ball betterballs a year, a couple of texas scramble comps, a couple of greensomes comps, there is also a small 9 hole comp every day of the week (monday through friday) one of these days is an eclectic comp wherby one week you will play the front 9 and the second week the back 9 alternating throughout the season, and take your best score on each hole and add them together at the end for a total score. there is also a 9 hole texas scramble comp every sunday for a bit of fun. on top of this there all the various matchplay competitions that it is possible to enter, such as, individual ko (medal played first and top 32 qualify, then drawn normally) tigers ko (hcps between 8 and 15), rabbits ko (hcps between 16 and 24) juniors ko, pairs ko (4bbb stableford, top 16 qualify), seniors ko, seniors pairs ko, and ladies ko.

We run comps both Sat & Sun-Sat off the yellow tees and Sun off the White tees-Mostly Stableford except for the Monthly medal played on Sundays.
We have a 2 day comp off the Blue Tees in September.
During the Summer there is a Tuesday comp. We also run a singles matchplay and a doubles matchplay and a mixed foursomes maychplay.
We run a few team events during the year to spice things up.
Come November the turkey shoots run for 6 weeks to the middle of December.
From mid Jan to Mid Feb we run a winter league.
And the great things is you can play in both competitions at the weekend as they are two separate competitions.

Just dicovered that one of the tuesday comps is a stableford, and it is non qualifying. It gets worse.

On what basis are they non-qualifying? Surely the whole point about competition is to get people's handicaps right?

Sounds like the handicap committee want to protect their handicaps!!?
