Such a brilliant day - The Brabazon...

Played the brabazon and the PGA a few times, never get bored of either, I think the ones that knock the brabazon expect too much, your not going to get 18 brilliant holes, I don't know any course that has more than a few good holes, hopefully playing there in a couple of weeks and I can't wait,

I could name between 30 and 50 courses that I've played that have a whole series of good holes.

I played the West Sussex last week. It has 16 outstanding golf holes and two that let it down somewhat but they are doing their best to improve the 1st.

I'd agree with that Dave, all they need to do to the 1st is make it a long 4 instead of a short 5

Definitely a par 4! although i maintain that i dont see why the course is rated so much. How Hindhead is not above it in all the rankings i will never know.

£3200 for the Brabazon membership is terrible, Woburn membership isnt much more than £2500k from what i was told by a member last week. i would argue all the 3 woburn courses are better than the Brabazon.

2 excellent tracks Sam....horses for courses and all that. I prefer WS but if you had said Hankley instead of Hindhead......now that would be a tough choice ;)

Of those three, Hankley is the best, West Sussex a very, very close second and in my view, Hindhead a relatively distant 3rd. That is not to say I don't like Hindhead - I do and rate it very highly.

The other two are special courses though and with the West Sussex, I think it is one of those courses that needs to be played a few times in order to be appreciated fully.

As for the Belfry. No comment apart from to say that £3200 for membership is absolutely stupid. I would bet that is twice the price of Little Aston and Beau Desert, two courses near the Belfry that are considerably better in every sense.

£3200 for membership to a golf club which isn't exclusive (members and their guests only) is crazy! The facilities at the Belfry are amazing but not £3200 amazing.

I played it on a clear, slightly frosty 1st of Jan. about 10 years ago.
I was surprisingly impressed with the course and the condition.

Overnight stay in the Hotel was pretty good as well.

i play beau desert once every two weeks and is simply unplayable in the summer with their rock hard slopping fairways and concrete greens. Even rob rock wont play in the summer! He said "you have no control over your golf ball"

As for little aston....the chance of becoming a member there is zero! Dead mans shoe's comes to mind

Feel free to shoot me down if this isn't true, but I was told at Little Aston they just divide up at the end of the year what they've spent on the course between the members and that's their fee's for the year?

I would say first of all well done to the Belfry for solving the problem although perhaps a bit cheeky to ask for another £20 and that the OP had a good day. I haven't been there since the refurb but it did need more than a lick of paint in places. The other courses are a decent challenge and I enjoyed the PGA more than the Belfry which is a nice course with the famous holes but has too many bland holes for such a famous venue. Just my opinion and not a Brabazon hater. I'd play it again for a good price. Maybe with the refurb my opinion will change
