Said it before - try the totally free Stats4golf first and see if it does what you want. If it doesn't, it would seem that SS2 is the best option of the pay ones.

And as for Apple inventing the mass market mp3 player? Get a grip...

Fair do's- pushing the envelope with that claim

By the way TA- Ive been using Stats4golf since you let me in on it a few months ago. My 'eclectic' for the local course is down to 14 over par after five rounds. If I could just stop wasting so many blinkin' chances on silly little duffed approaches I might be in with a chance of 'realising' this sort of score. Back to 110's with the odd blinder it is then :(

I only ever want to play to around 90 ever as the focus required to take one further would start to interfere with enjoying the company, the scenery and the P&Q of it.

I use an excel spreadsheet analysis I bought on Ebay last year and does most of what all the expensive software does. My stats from this years 8 rounds...

Fairways 80%
G.I.R 67%
Putts 1.81
Putts Per G.I.R 31.3

Blimey, my stats look rubbish in comparison!

Since the start of the year:

Fairways - 50.6%
GIR - 27.78%
Putts per GIR - 2.24%

Mind you, the scores haven't been great so it's no surprise really!

Well I've entered last Saturdays round, and it's proved interesting. Putted for shite on Sat, and was way over my average of 38, ah well, I blame the 40 knot winds!

Here goes.

Key stats for Hapless Hacker (Hcap: 24)

Fairways Hit: 43% (Hcap Std: 15)
Greens In Reg: 28% (Hcap Std: 11)
Putts Per Round: 46.00 (Hcap Std: 28+)
Sand Saves: n/a (Hcap Std: n/a)
Birdie Conversion: 0% (Hcap Std: 28+)
Par Scrambles: 23% (Hcap Std: 12)
Driving Distance: n/a (Hcap Std: n/a)
Penalties Per Round: n/a (Hcap Std: n/a)

Rounds Recorded: 2
Date Range: All Time: 01/01/1950 to 12/03/2008
Producted by Scoresaver 2. www.scoresaver.co.uk

I understand the putts stat, but what does the par scrambles mean? And which bit of my game is lacking. (Don't mention the putting, I was way over my actual average!)

Thanks in advance.

I expect some of the scoring to drop a little, bar the driving as it was woeful on the first 8 holes.

Scrambles are your up-and-downs e.g. chip/pitch and putts.

Well for a 24hc, it really is your putting that is the weakness! Your fairways and GIR and not far off mine and I'm 15hc.

Get yourself down to 34-36 putts a round (nothing special) and thats 10-12 shots off your hc.

OK guys here are my stats.

Quite simple to see the problem. Too many putts, not enough birdies and my short game (getting up and down) needs work

Key stats for Homer(Hcap: 14)

Fairways Hit: 46% (Hcap Std: 13)
Greens In Reg: 25% (Hcap Std: 12)
Putts Per Round: 37.17 (Hcap Std: 23)
Sand Saves: 18% (Hcap Std: 10)
Birdie Conversion: 0% (Hcap Std: 28+)
Par Scrambles: 11% (Hcap Std: 24)

so here's an example (posted by SS2)

Key stats for Andy Richmond (Hcap: 12)

Fairways Hit: 55% (Hcap Std: 9)
Greens In Reg: 34% (Hcap Std: 9)
Putts Per Round: 33.01 (Hcap Std: 15)
Sand Saves: 10% (Hcap Std: 18)
Birdie Conversion: 14% (Hcap Std: 14)
Par Scrambles: 22% (Hcap Std: 13)
Driving Distance: 260 (Hcap Std: 3)
Penalties Per Round: 1.90 (Hcap Std: 19)

The number in brackets represent the approximate h'cap of someone making those stats? hmm, interesting.
Do 19 h'caps really average nearly 2 penalties per round....scary...
I'm not arguing with the figures (I'm sure they are well number crunched) but I found the sand saves a bit harsh. I used SS2 on trial, and my sand saves were off the hacker scale.....how insulting. I hardly ever go in bunkers and if I do, tend to splash out and two putt. I'd rather knock it sensibly out and safe rather than leave it in there, thin the cr** out of it, but get up n down 2/5 say.

I don't keep a record, but I know where my weakness is.....GIR, end of story.

You need at least 5 rounds before the key stat summary (the data you've all been posting here) becomes meaningful. Having said that, looking at a single round (Brendy's, for example), can be worthwhile if taken in context.

OK, here's my comments on the stats posted so far:

SS2: (HCap 12)
Fairways Hit: 55% (Hcap Std: 9)
Greens In Reg: 34% (Hcap Std: 9)
Putts Per Round: 33.01 (Hcap Std: 15)
Sand Saves: 10% (Hcap Std: 18)
Birdie Conversion: 14% (Hcap Std: 14)
Par Scrambles: 22% (Hcap Std: 13)
Driving Distance: 260 (Hcap Std: 3)
Penalties Per Round: 1.90 (Hcap Std: 19)

Pretty neutral and close to handicap except for my two weak areas: Bunkers and penalty shots.

Frasting (HCap ??)
Fairways 80%
G.I.R 67%
Putts 1.81
Putts Per G.I.R 31.3

Wow for Fairways and GIR, pro level. Putts also v impressive. Putts/GIR: presumably this is actually putts/round? In which case, VG. Top Marks.

Toonarmy
Fairways - 50.6%
GIR - 27.78%
Putts per GIR - 2.24%

Hcap stds: 11 for Fw. 11 for GIR.
Putts/GIR doesn't have a hcap standard but 2.24 would seem to be poor compared to FW and GIR stats

HaplessHacker
Fairways Hit: 43% (Hcap Std: 15)
Greens In Reg: 28% (Hcap Std: 11)
Putts Per Round: 46.00 (Hcap Std: 28+)
Sand Saves: n/a (Hcap Std: n/a)
Birdie Conversion: 0% (Hcap Std: 28+)
Par Scrambles: 23% (Hcap Std: 12)

As hh said, the putting stands out a mile here and when more rounds are entered will probably improve.

Brendy (9)
Fairways Hit: 57% (Hcap Std: 8)
Greens In Reg: 50% (Hcap Std: 4)
Putts Per Round: 27.00 (Hcap Std: ** Pro **)
Sand Saves: 0% (Hcap Std: 28+)
Birdie Conversion: 22% (Hcap Std: 3)
Par Scrambles: 67% (Hcap Std: ** Pro **)
Driving Distance: 269 (Hcap Std: 1)
Penalties Per Round: 0.00 (Hcap Std: ** Pro **)

Nice stats but more rounds needed. Keep up the good work. 67% par scambles: Wow.

Homer(Hcap: 14)

Fairways Hit: 46% (Hcap Std: 13)
Greens In Reg: 25% (Hcap Std: 12)
Putts Per Round: 37.17 (Hcap Std: 23)
Sand Saves: 18% (Hcap Std: 10)
Birdie Conversion: 0% (Hcap Std: 28+)
Par Scrambles: 11% (Hcap Std: 24)
Penalties Per Round: 0.67 (Hcap Std: 7)

Close to hcap standards for FW, GIR and SS.

rgUK makes a good point here. Scoresaver only measures sand saves (i.e. up and downs) and I agree that I would take consistent splash outs + 2 putts over a combnination of the occasional up and down plus some bunker disasters...

John Findlay (Hcap: 9)

Fairways Hit: 58% (Hcap Std: 7)
Greens In Reg: 51% (Hcap Std: 4)
Putts Per Round: 36.50 (Hcap Std: 21)
Sand Saves: 33% (Hcap Std: 5)
Birdie Conversion: 1% (Hcap Std: 28+)
Par Scrambles: 18% (Hcap Std: 17)
Driving Distance: 262 (Hcap Std: 2)
Penalties Per Round: 0.25 (Hcap Std: 2)

VG Penalties (compare to my 1.9 a round, I'm giving John over one and a half strokes per round through penalties).

After using statsforgolf, I signed up for Scoresaver last night, and entered the 5 rounds I have played this year (4 home rounds, 1 away). Very interesting handicap comparisons, I really like that feature. I will post my SS2 summary tonight.

Toad,

Are you sure that you have never installed a copy of Scoresaver 2 since it was released on March 1st 2007? Even if you installed it but never ran it, that kicks off the timer on your trial.

As for your stats: if 1.35 putts/GIR is accurate, it is fantastic.

Sorry mate just edited it for last 5 rounds
Installed but never ran it SS2 just need to buy it instead.

Iam good with the putter when I do hit the greens, and scramble pars with lots of up and downs rely heavily on my short game to keep my scores down.
