SSS ......... Standard scratch ...... ???

Actually, the Procedure for calculating CSS is in Appendix of this:CONGU Unified Handicapping System 2012-2015

It is rather complicated, but could certainly be done manually with the worksheets supplied.

It used to relate to score where 20% of whole field (minus highest category) were within 2 shots of SSS. Adjusted this year for individual categories/buffers rather than 2 shots.

Except that the tables for the calculation are intentionally blank so you cannot actually do the calculation.

You can if you have a competition on a course with an SSS and its scores and handicaps!

I've seen the Table A values somewhere. Will do a hunt.

They are in the UHS booklet but were deliberately omitted from the online version - they want to sell the booklets at £4 a throw plus shipping.

It's not about the number of people who score 36pts and above, it's about the % of entrants that shot within their buffer (it used to be the number of people that shot within 2 of SSS but they changed it this year). You could have had loads of people in the buffer which could cause CSS to go up.

P.S. i hate CSS more than Imurg

Oh no you don't!!:ears:

I had a rant in the magazine a couple of months back.
SSS was 69, best nett score was 69, CSS went to 68.
Nobody beat SSS yet the movable goalpost went down.

I hate CSS more than anyone!!

That's a bit harsh. Imurg is a lovely chap! ;)

Personally I don't worry. Play my round put the scores into PSI and the card in the box and wait for HDID to tell me what I usually already know and I've 0.1 back. This year though with all the good scores I'm going to compile I'll have to pay closer attention to CSS as it'll affect how many shots I lose each time. It's a complcated affair and I've the utmost respect for handicap secretaries at each and ever course. Not something I'd ever consider getting involved in
