Square Drivers - Where did they go.....

I have only just stopped, by that I mean 2 weeks ago, using a Nike Machspeed Str-8 fit square headed driver, I loved it at first but then just kind of lost confidence in it, I just changed to a more traditional cobra amp cell although I did get a blue one as I love the bright colours available in them. Could hit the Nike a long long way but very rarely was it ever straight

The square Nike offering was louder than Concorde on take off. Horrendous and no way you could concentrate if anyone had it in the next bay

Your getting too hung up on aesthetics.
Results are what your looking for.
Would be good if we get drawn together somewhere mate,I would bring my driver
and you would lose concentration.:D

My 1st ever was driver Nike SQ 2 sumo square it just gave me confidence. Bought it off a pal after trying it at the range. Nothing technical about it appealed to me just the visual appearance. As a golf newbie (I also loved the sweet sweet sound of the air rifle at a skip :) ) it gave me confidence to pull it out the bag and give it a go. 3 years of smacking it all over the place and it's just been replaced with my R1.... why I didn't do this a long time ago??!!!! Because I loved it like a battered old car! Like an old Volvo Estate to a new Audi S line! It'll never be chucked out and sits proudly in a stupidly massive oversize Ping Staff bag I'll never use in the cupboard under the stairs

He who squares wins

Thanks for all the responses nice to know I'm not alone and good to see that there are a knowledable lot on here. I'll be sure to reference the exact clubs in future ;-)

I had never really thought about the sound of a square driver before, but I now think it is time to start the quest for a new ( normal shaped ) driver. Hopefully making my drives more consistent

Just saying that if anyone wants to try out a very good condition SQUARE nike machspeed str-8 fit driver with regular shaft and 10.5 degrees I know of one on ebay and the guy thats selling it is very very trustworthy ;)

I never thought my driving would be any better/straighter with a regular shaped head. Apart from a few heartbreaking sky marks on my new driver (where my old square used to have club face!) its made a huge difference, so much more consistant, could be a lot of factors I suppose but I was surprised the in the improvement of the new. Hope its not a honeymoon period and it lasts!

I use a Square Headed :) - with a dent in the bottom!

When I started playing, a year ago now, I was googling cheap drivers and came across some good reviews for mine.. The Powerbilt slugger
It sounds absolutely ridiculous, has a dent in the bottom, and cost £26. I love it, I have loads of confidence in it, which I think is the main reason I love it, I out drive all but one of my playing partners. I will be upgrading this year, to see if modern technology will make a difference as I have a couple of lessons to improve my game...I wouldnt be suprised if I went back to my good old slugger!
