Had an e-mail back from Footjoy

"Thank you for your feedback relating to brogue design golf shoes within the FJ shoe range. We do from time to time receive requests for such a design however as I'm sure you can understand we need to be able to justify these requests and be satisfied that there is enough demand to warrant running the chosen style. That said, thank you for highlighting the discussion on the topic on the Golf Monthly website and I will pass your request onto our product development team for their consideration when putting together the 2010 product line"

Nice one Homer, can't see it getting anywhere but nice to see a company concerned about customer satisfaction and replying so sincerely. I can't help but think though that by this statement they are saying that only people with money to burn would appreciate a brogue style shoe- seems a bit naive. I would say that most people buying the premium brogue style shoes are buying them for the design as opposed to the higher quality leather. Most in my experience would be happy with a decent leather shoe it wouldn't have to be 'the best' leather, so if given the option of a premium leather brogue for £180 or a standard leather (like on the footjoy pods etc) brogue for £90 most would choose the cheaper option. I really feel it is just the fact that they make more money by having brogues as a real premium shoe that they wouldn't implement the production of a more realistically priced pair. I know they are there to make money, but they should admit it if this is the case.

Then again I have been wrong before...
