Driving up and down the M8 (Glasgow to Edinburgh) today and there are two sets of roadworks. Speed limits were set at 40 and 50 mph.

Am I the only person to actually follow these limits? Had about 20 vehicles pass me doing 60 and 70mph.

Was anyone actually working on the road or was it free storage for their traffic cones.

I reckon if we destroyed 50% of traffic cones then they would have to finish the job they are on before moving onto the next.

There were workers, yeah.

However, no speed cameras

If I ran the country, I would have speed cameras taking photos of EVERY car passing and fine speeders £60 and REWARD those who do the speed limit with a £30 voucher against Road Fund License. That would stop speeding!

I would always obey them, I have seen mobile units located in or near the end of them catching drivers.

I don't care what others are doing, I drive the speed I think is safe for the conditions.

I am having a bit of a bad time at the moment though, firstly people NOT clearing the snow off their car and setting off annoys me. I have seen many close calls with cyclists and had ice or snow hit my windscreen from other cars a few times (all those 4am starts to drive to Hampshire from Cambs)

Secondly other drivers overtaking me when I am waiting for other road users. The guy pulling out infront of the ambulance and just today I wait for a cyclist and someone overtakes me, nearly wiping the poor lady clear off her bike. Lucky she could dive onto the path instead!

Is everybody just so impatient they cannot wait less than half a minute for something safer?

And exactly what does he job entail? And do there need to be any workers there at that time?

Yep, I always slow down for the road works on motorways, I always move to the left lane and let the muppets get past me and hopefully get a ticket. I really think the standard of driving and observation has gone down in the last decade or so, the number of times I have experienced a driver in front panic when an ambulance/police car/fire engine with its siren blaring out, and I have seen it, planned the easiest way to let the vehicle through, and executed that procedure safely. Yesterday I was even passed by a car in traffic as I moved to a safe position to allow an ambulance through, he didnt have a clue what was going on around him, not an Audi driver, but it was German

As all the cameras have been turned off in birmingham I happily ignore the 50mph average cameras on the m6 on my way to the club
This has been confirmed via various media outlets and my very helpful neighbour in the force

They now use Speed Cameras that they can quickly move from location to location.
Ones like this,
