My 19 yr old lad has asked that for Xmas I sort him out with clubs, bags, etc as he fancies taking up golf !!!
I've tried to talk him out of all the pain and frustration he's letting himself in for but as per normal he won't listen to me ! :D:D:D

Is there actually a decent quality package set out there or should I be looking through eBay.
Also he's 6' 3", would he need longer clubs. He is quite athletic as well

At 6' 3" he should at least do a static fit on the Ping or other website as a starting point.

There are always second hand or new starter sets on ebay for the taller player.

I would definitely look at second hand gear. You'll get better stuff for the price than you would buying a brand new starter set that's trash like Dunlop or Slazenger. Well maybe trash is harsh but second hand Ping, Callaway etc etc would be better quality. As he's a beginner you could get just a 10 year old forgiving set of irons for £100-150. Probably wouldn't hurt to try and find some that are quarter of an inch longer just to be on the safe side if he's 6'3. Throw in a putter, a 3 wood and a bag and you're all set.

Hide all your brand new ProV1s (y):D

Obviously it's nice getting a whole set with everything matching... but personally would try to source stuff second hand.

Probably would be quite feasable to get a whole set of Ping or TM from 4 or 5 years ago so it's all matching. Ok will be a bit scuffed but imo better value for money and will hold it's value if he decided to either upgrade very quickly, or pack it in.

Something like Taylor Made Burner or Ping G30.

Probably be looking at around:
Driver £45
3 Wood £30
Irons £100 to £150
Wedges £20 each
Putter anything from £20 to £80
Bag £50 to £100 depending on what you go for

I'd echo comments about clubs4cash in loanhead, set of forgiving irons, certainty they'll have something with half inch or inch extensions

Alternatively, I'd have a look on gumtree as there's always someone selling a package deal

I'd stay clear of new 'boxed' sets if you get what I mean

Don’t forget his height is not really a major factor .
The main measurement is from wrist to floor.
This determines the shaft length.
So 6’3” short arms long legs
Or 6’3”long arms short legs are totally different fit.
The ping webfit will give you an indication of length and lie.
