• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

So what are YOUR aims this year ?

My targets this season are:-

- Enjoy my golf
- To get down to 15"ish"
- Retain my Rabbits champion status
- Concentrate on each shot and play which shot feels right.

In regards to kit, I am thinking its a wee bit late in the closed season to start changing kit now.

Go a full season without changing my putter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Id like to do that as well craw i rekon i changed my putter 15 times last year so this year i want to use the same one using a itsy bitsy just now but may feel the urge for a new scotty :D ;)

As a newish golfer just been playing a year I want to get down to 24 from 28.
I want to know why it is when I play with my regular partners who are also 28 handicappers I play at around 26-32 stableford on my own courses at West Malling. When I play with others and at different courses I play much better averaging 34-38 points ?
So I play well then it sorts of detiorates when I play with the regular partners.

Are you sure?

You obviously haven't heard of the new model coming out in April. Obviously it's very much under wraps but here's a sneak pic

Cut at least 5 shots off my current handicap is my main aim this season. I'd like to progress through the knock out comps too.

If i can keep my concentration for 18 holes and not beat myself up after duffed shots i should be ok.

+2. Improbable but thats about all I'd be happy with. Even then would be looking at +3 with an unsatisfied look on my face. So don't think I should really put a figure on it.

My aim this year is to put some real effort in and get in lots of quality practise. I want to keep a calm and level head on the course and range, treat every shot the same weather it's on the first tee, Putting for quadruple bogey up the second or putting out on the last for an -8 round.

Not bothered about winning anything just want to enjoy playing and practising.

Win a gold letter event and get to single figures. My short game is letting me down at the moment but once thats sorted via a lesson in early March it's onwards and upwards.

I'm even looking at some success in the team events. I've always partnered one of my regular Saturday groups who are higher handicappers and to be fair on their day they are capable of 40+ points (and get that most roll ups). However they lack the consistancy and we've never really threatened. I truely believe Hywel and I have the capability to do some serious damage as we complement each other pretty well

When your playing with your regular 4 ball theres probably a bit of banter going on, try having a little money on the outcome, guarantee your score will improve :D

Get to category one and stay there. Hate playing off 6 now, I’ve got to get down to 4.7 or 8 to get some breathing space. Hitting the ball well and I’ve been scoring well in the last few weeks without sinking a decent putt. Changed my swing during the off season, so, roll on.

Sharpen up my iron play. Its the only part of my game that needs serious attention. The rest needs work too but the iron approaches are just not accurate enough.
Do that and the handicap will take care of itself and anything down to 6/7 is a possibility.

I joined my club last August so this is my first year for a long time that I can take part in some competative golf.

I got my handicap in January - 10 - which I'm quite happy with but I'd like to get that down to single figures. I'd be happy with 8 - 5 would be superb.

A bit of work required - my putting in particular.

I'm going to try a different mentality this year. I get very nervous before comps - I'm going to try and be more chilled out - hopefully this will help.

For me the aim is to simlpy swing a golf club, since I injured my back/hip last November.

Well that's put my aims into perspective. Wishing you a full recovery Spoff.
Cheers Twire,

I reckon I am only a month or so away from some gentle range sessions, the plan for the winter was plenty of work in the gym, range and some lessons.

I guess that'll have to be the plan for this summer now.

Just before the back injury I was regularly shooting 105ish, so hopefully I can get that and then sort out breaking 100 before the year is out.

You won't like it at The Addington when I announce your name on the 1st tee in front of 50 other players then

I'm out last..... :D

Anyway, I'm going to be nevous enough just by being in your esteemed company. ;)

Also, it's going to be my first outing as Audrey. My therapist reckons it'll be good for me to meet strangers as my new persona.....
