Sat here looking forward to the year, and reflecting on last year, where I finally reached my goal of Single figures @ 9.2, before playing badly again in October and slipping up to 9.5.

I really applied myself last year, and thought carefully on the course, which resulted in me achieving my goal, but despite that, my own Achiles Heel was the damned Double Bogey's, and I know very well that I only had one round without a Double at all. :D

Looking at the stats on Howdidido etc, here's how I compare against all the other Cat2 players at my own course:

Birdies 5.81% (others 3.97%)
Pars 35.77% (others 34.18%)
Bogeys 36.14% (others 41.87%)
Doubles 22.28% (others 19.92%)

Clear that by simply turning those Doubles in Bogey's, I can perhaps slip back into Singles, or even get lower again, but not as easy as it seems perhaps ?
Never the less, thats the plan........whats yours if you have one ?

For the first time in 4 years my handicap stayed the same after going up, up and up previously.
I joined at 6 and would be stupid to think that I could drop to 6 in one year again with only a little more practice, certainly not the levels of practice that I think I need.
My birdie conversion is pretty good as are my pars but I fall down with the odd double also Chris.
My aim for the year is to just be happier with my game and work on keeping it straight. If it drops to 7pointsomething Id be very happy.

Get EasenGrace and Jacetheace their handicaps so I can start taking money off them :D

Although after meeting them and playing for the first time on Saturday I suspect the money will be travelling in the other direction tbh

My aim is to drop to 6, but I'd probably be happy with 7 (that would mean I've dropped down one shot per season since I re-started playing the game).

If I can play a few games where I drive well from the start - instead of waiting to the 10th to begin.

Hole a few more putts and miss a lot less putts I should come down easily as I've been hitting GIR really well for a couple of years now.

LOL, I've got my work cut out if im going to reach the single figures im aiming for. I think my short game is holding me back at 10-12, but if I can improve I could be 5-6. I think I had you worried after 5 or 6 holes didn't I Dave, My usual game didn't take long to kick in though. Although I played most of the round crap, I still shot 79 with that birdie on the last.
Me and Jace were hoping to get a few cards filled in by the next time we meet up mate, TBH I did see signs of brilliance around the greens even on temps the other day, so I can see beating you isn't going to be easy in comp conditions. Luckily im not very competitive ;)

Get my h'cap back down to 3
Retain the Club Champs
Make the cut @ County Champs
Secure 30 County OOM Points
Win the winter singles knockout (the only club comp I haven't won)

For me the aim is to simlpy swing a golf club, since I injured my back/hip last November.

Well that's put my aims into perspective. Wishing you a full recovery Spoff.

Back to the OP. I'm not setting myself targets, just hope to play a bit more, enjoy the golf, and the handicap should take care of itself.

I don't know.. one minute it's on my mind to practice as much as possible and get down to low single figures again, then the next minute I'm thinking I haven't got that level of commitment in me any more, am I REALLY a sportsman? You need a sportsmans mentality to succeed in this game, it doesn't just happen without practice, practice and commitment.

To get a cut in my next medal (Sunday) would be a good start.... and take it one step at a time I guess.

You'd have to sharpen up your putting for that James.
You really are terrible at it you know

I thought those greens were supposed to be fast... my garden is quicker!

Counting the putts I had yesterday when my ball was actually on the putting surface... 28 putts. You're right, I need to get better :)

Just joined a club on Saturday so I hope to put my 3 cards in as soon as I can. I then want to cut 5 off that handicap this year.

More importantly I want to improve my mindset so I'm not ready to give up the game every single round I play ;)

I can relate to that feeling. I'm sure setting precise goals and trying to achieve them little by little is the way forward... well that's what I'm going to try..... I just haven't set them yet :o

Go a full season without changing my putter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go a full season without changing my putter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tried that - it defies the laws of physics!!

This year, am going for:

Join a new club (done that)

Play with some new people
